Personal struggles with one’s own tendencies, desires, lusts, and self-interest have placed people in conflict with other people and their own communities farther back than any of us can read. We read about the struggles of others in history – what about ourselves?

ntroduction Personal struggles with one’s own tendencies, desires, lusts, and self-interest have placed people in conflict with other people and their own communities farther back than any of us can read.  We read about the struggles of others in history – what about ourselves?  Yes, us!  What about our experiences of being ourselves? When we look back in history, we find people who are not so different from us – struggling with their human nature – and trying to live ethical lives in whatever way they can do so.  They aspire to live ethical lives and find themselves failing again and again.

St. Augustine in the 5th Century held that although we feel free to make choices in life, our true nature as human beings includes a persistent disregard for what is good. On this view, we are sinners whose only hope for redemption lies in the gracious love of a merciful deity. Whatever I do on my own, Augustine would argue, is bound to be wrong; whatever I do right, must be performed by God through me.

St. Thomas Aquinas in the 13th Century brought Aristotle’s theories back into vogue, soon after St. Augustine’s death (if 800 years is soon, that is.)  He allowed humanity to have a bit of secularity along with faith, and his ethics allows for a Natural Law, which can be found in the heart of man.  Be sure to listen to the audio simulation in this week’s lesson before posting in this discussion.

Initial Post Instructions For the initial post, consider the sophistication and technology of the 21st century. Examine how the medieval account of human nature aligns with your own experience of human action. That is, do you observe (in yourself and others) an inclination toward evil instead of toward good? Explain and analyze your observations. Bring in examples of scenarios that bolster your view or that tend to bring your view (or others) into question.

Follow-Up Post Instructions Respond to at least two peers or one peer and the instructor. Further the dialogue by providing more information and clarification.

Writing Requirements

· Minimum of 3 posts (1 initial & 2 follow-up)

· Minimum of 2 sources cited (assigned readings/online lessons and an outside source)

· APA format for in-text citations and list of references

Question 1. The Evolution of Greek Sculpture

Question 1. The Evolution of Greek Sculpture

As we learned this week, sculptors in Ancient Greece strove to achieve perfection in the works of art they created. Carefully examine the following sculptures and read about each one in your textbook, course and video lectures, and through reliable internet resources:

Peplos Kore, from the Acropolis, Athens, c. 530 BCE
Warrior, found in the sea off Riace, Italy, c. 460-450 BCE
Hagesandros, Polydoros, and Athanadoros of Rhodes, Laocoön and His Sons, 2nd-1st c BCE

Then, in a minimum of 2 well-developed paragraphs, answer the following questions:

  • What specific visual similarities do you observe in these three sculptures?
  • What specific differences do you see? Consider the representation of the figure, facial expression or suggested emotion, additional objects portrayed, and the role of the viewer for each sculpture.
  • How is each sculpture representative of the period in Ancient Greece (e.g., Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic) in which it was created?

Be sure to explain your ideas clearly and support them by discussing specific details about each sculpture.

Question 2. Religious Symbolism

This week, we studied cultures that recognized a pantheon of gods and goddesses, such as Ancient Greece and Rome, and also explored the early artistic objects of the Jewish and Christian faiths.

Carefully examine the following sculptures and read about each one in your textbook, course and video lectures, and through reliable internet resources:

Initiation Rites of the Cult of Bacchus, wall painting in the Villa of the Mysteries, Pompeii, c. 50 BCE
Ark of the Covenant and Menorahs, wall painting in a Jewish catacomb, Villa Torlonia, Rome, 3rd c CE
The Transfiguration of Christ, Church of Sant’ Apollinare in Classe, 533-549 CE

Then, in a minimum of 3 well-developed paragraphs, address the following questions:

  1. What is the subject matter shown in each work?
  2. What is the belief system or faith represented in each work?
  3. What religious symbols do you observe in each work?
  4. How would the setting of each work have influenced how the contemporary viewer interpreted or understood its meaning?

Be sure to provide citations for any outside sources you reference in this part of your response.

Respond to both questions as thoroughly as possible, making sure to use information from this week’s readings, lectures, and additional resources. All responses should be in complete sentence form, using proper spelling and grammar.

Gaps In Literature And Different Types Of Evidence profile

Provide a 3-4 sentence response to discussion question answer provided below in apa format with in-text citations. Title page is not needed

Answer: Identifying gaps during literature review or other types of evidence is an integral step in a systematic review. Gaps in research findings can be related to insufficient or vague information, biased information, inconsistent results, unknown consistency with the results, or not providing the right information. Research gaps can limit the ability for key stakeholders to make decisions and implement evidence-based practice changes (Robinson, 2013).

Even though research may present with gaps, do these gaps help or hinder when attempting to create change in an organization? The answer could be both. In one instance, it could hinder the process if the existing evidence does not answer the question or there are significant deficiencies with the information which limits the ability to create a solution to a practice problem. On the other hand, research gaps can be further developed and provide a springboard for stakeholders to look into other areas of research or evidence (Robinson, 2013).

Original Question: When reviewing the literature and different types of evidence, there are often gaps in the findings. Are such gaps a help or a hindrance when wanting to create a change?

Statistically Significant And Clinically Significant Evidence-SD profile khirted_T Main

Report Issue

Provide a 3-4 sentence response to the below discussion question answer in apa format with in-text citations and references:

Answer: An evidence is said to be statistically significant if the relationship between two or more variables other than any random chance of occurrence. Mostly used in hypothesis testing, if p value is less than 5% then results are said to be statically significant.

Example: A study on impact of work-related stress on employee motivation may be said as statistically significant as possibility is that some other variables are also important.

Clinically significant evidence: It is based on treatment effect that if another variable introduced then what will be the new result. Most of the time, this type of experiment used in scientific program.

These findings are important in evidence-based project by the following’s ways:

-The relations among various variables might be obtained.

-In scientific based literature clinically significant evidence has great contribution.

-Patient safety research project may be analyzed based on clinically significant evidence.

-Many organizational problems / projects can be evaluated based on statistically significant evidence by internal validity/ testing of hypothesis.

Leug states that there is a great significance in the measures on how different each outcome in treatment can control groups are not real and are not by a chance. P values are the given probability to the outcomes given by chance and assumption by new control treatments and measures. There is a mathematical significance in justification to the EBP when you have statistical significance.

Original Question: What is the difference between statistically significant evidence and clinically significant evidence? How would each of these findings be used to advance an evidenced-based project?
