Write 700-1000 words on a global conflict/militarism of your choosing; please do not use a conflict we have already covered unless you receive prior approval from me. Using various concepts and approaches from the course, explore and analyze how this global conflict/militarism shapes daily life (either your own, or that of people somewhere else in the world) and/or inspires practices of resistance to militarization. Your journal can be written as a reflection but it must be analytically rigorous and coherent. You are required to use 2 sources from your open source research and make a connection to at least one course text. The total of 3 sources must be properly cited. Step 1: Research
Keeping in mind examples of global conflicts/militarisms we have examined in this class so far (the conquest of the Western United States and displacement/genocide of Indigenous peoples, the bombardment of Iraq by the British during a rebellion against colonial rule, militarized conflict in the Persian Gulf and in Afghanistan), use open source tools (internet search engines) to search for a particular conflict that interests you and that you see connected to the class themes and questions about the relationship between militarized conflicts/cultures of militarism and capitalism and colonialism. Select a militarized conflict and use at least two journalistic or academic sources to gather information about the context/origin of this conflict, and how this conflict/militarism is shaping your particular life, the life or people somewhere else in the world, or compelling practices of resistance to militarization. Identify a connection to a point(s) in at least one course reading.

Please note that journalistic sources should be from reputable organizations for example, the BBC, Al-Jazeera, New York Times, etc. Blogs, Wikipedia, or obscure sites will not be accepted.
