In addition, an article came out recently entitled “Bee species added to endangered list for first time”.  Here is the link:

What are the reasons for their disappearance?  When did this begin?  Why are bees so important?  What, if anything, can we do?  Please share your thoughts! THIS SHOULD BE AT LEAST 2 PARAGRAPHS.

Should we close the ocean to save the fish? 
You may be familiar with the fact that many fisheries have collapsed due to overfishing (for an example, search the “cod fishery collapse”).  This has a number of significant impacts, but is also important from a conservation standpoint.  For this thread, I would like for you to watch the following video entitled “Should we Close the Ocean to Save the Fish?”  This is a great video that discusses the issue and a radical solution that is being proposed to save the fisheries:

Who owns What??? Tragedy of the Commons

 In your text, the concept of “the tragedy of the commons” is discussed.  This concept was originally created by Garrett Hardin in 1968 and essentially argued that the use of public resources will be governed by self-interest and that public resources are not owned and therefore no incentives exist to manage or take care of it.

There are a lot of environmental issues affecting us today, and much of this goes back to the tragedy of the commons and the fact that the environment is not owned and each person tries to get what they can from it for their own personal gain. My question to you is…how do we alleviate the tragedy of the commons? In addition to providing your solutions, also provide your thoughts on the article/interview and thoughts on the tragedy of the commons. Do you believe this is an accurate depiction of the current crises we face? Why or why not.
