Discussion #1: The Declaration of Independence
The tensions that arose between Great Britain and her North American colonies as a result of taxation and other measures following the Seven Years’ War culminated in war, a movement for independence, and the establishment of a new nation. The ideals that fueled the Revolution were grounded in Enlightenment Era thought. These same ideals still shape our vision as we continue to define American Democracy.

After you have completed the readings answer ONE of the following questions:
1. How did Enlightenment Era thought to influence the Declaration of Independence? In your answer, be sure to address how political thought evolved during the Enlightenment Era and how those shifts are represented within the Declaration of Independence.
2. Are Enlightenment ideals still relevant as a guiding force in current American society? How so? In your answer, please be sure to address current events and issues.
In order to earn the full 100 points (100%) for this assignment, you must:
Directly and completely answer the discussion question. Clearly and accurately explain your answer based on factual information contained in the assigned readings. (80 points)
Students must respond to at least one fellow student’s posting explaining the reason(s) for their agreement or disagreement, with the arguments that have been presented, in order to get full credit for the discussion. (20 points)

 It is a short (1200 – 1500 words) research essay on a work written before 1660. This work may have been written in any language so long as the writer has been translated into English. You are not restricted to fiction; works about myth, religion, science, medicine, history, etc., are valid as well. Although you may briefly discuss the author′s background in the introduction, your essay must focus on a particular work and NOT the life of the author. Follow MLA guidelines for your essay. If you are not familiar with MLA guidelines, the Reference Desk at almost any library will have them, or you may purchase a copy of the latest version at the bookstore or online book seller of your choice. Do make sure your copy is current. Citing online research is tricky. Make certain to print everything concerning any online source you plan to use. It may not be available or easy to find later. Your total number of sources (online and print) must be at least three, excluding the primary text. Avoid such websites as Wikipedia and Sparknotes in favor of scholarly sources. Use Galileo to find scholarly articles. 

 

ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Literature Review – This week you will expand your week 3 assignment by adding more sources and evaluation of each source to develop a literature review.

1.Collect, organize, analyze, and critique 15 + peer-reviewed research articles that are related to a topic area and problem statement.

2.Write an introduction to your topic and the overall problem you are addressing.


3.Write a literature review.

4.Conclude your literature review with a summary of the gaps in the Literature and how this aligns with your research area of interest.

5.
Your writing should follow the standards established in the course and in-text and end-of-text references should follow APA style manual format.

Multi-Touch Screens Versus Mouse-Driven Screens

Scenario

Computer applications that run on  desktop and laptop computers have, for a long time, been designed to be  driven by dragging and clicking a mouse. With the introduction of tablet  personal computers, the trend has shifted toward using touch-based  screens. We now have access to touch-based TVs, touch-based monitors,  touch-based laptops, and touch-based tablets. Touch and multi-touch  devices provide end users with the ability to interact physically with  an application much more naturally. Imagine that you are the Information  Technology Director of a major chain restaurant, and you have been  assigned to design a menu ordering application that can run on all  devices. Examine whether using a touch-screen monitor, a tablet, or a  mouse to select menu items to place an order would be most efficient.  Speculate how employees would interact with these devices and the type  of emotional reaction that customers and employees will experience while  placing a beverage, appetizer, or entrée order. 

Instructions

Write a 4–5 page paper in which you: 

1. Differentiate between the interaction types and styles that apply to multi-touch screens and applications running on them.
2. Determine the conceptual model that you would use when designing a product for your restaurant.
3. Describe the key analogies and concepts these monitors expose to  users, including the task-domain objects users manipulate on the screen.
4. Determine one utility or tool in an application for touch-based  and mouse-driven screens that should be designed with memory retention  or recall. Provide a rationale for your response.
5. Use at least three quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as quality resources. You may use the resources above or others of your choosing.
