Part 4:Research analysis

Architect Daniel Libeskind is credited with saying “To provide meaningful architecture is not to parody history, but to articulate it.” The suggestion is that his work does not copy the efforts of others but relies on it.

Understanding the work of others is critically important to new work. Contributions to the nursing body of knowledge can happen when you are able to analyze and articulate the efforts of previous research. Research analysis skills are therefore critical tools for your toolbox.

In this Assignment, you will locate relevant existing research. You also will analyze this research using a tool helpful for analysis.

To Prepare:

  • Reflect on the strategies presented in the Resources this Module’s Learning Resources in support of locating and analyzing research.
  • Use the Walden Library to identify and read one peer-reviewed research article focused on a topic in your specialty field that interests you.
  • Review the article you selected and reflect on the professional practice use of theories/concepts described by the article.

The Assignment:

Using the “Module 4 | Part 4” section of your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Templatepresented in the Resources, conduct an analysis of the elements of the research article you identified. Be sure to include the following:

  • Your topic of interest.
  • A correctly formatted APA citation of the article you selected, along with link or search details.
  • Identify a professional practice use of the theories/concepts presented in the article.
  • Analysis of the article using the “Research Analysis Matrix” section of the template
  • Write a 1-paragraph justification stating whether you would recommend this article to inform professional practice.
  • Write a 2- to 3-paragraph summary that you will add to your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan that includes the following:
    • Describe your approach to identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed research.
    • Identify at least two strategies that you would use that you found to be effective in finding peer-reviewed research.
    • Identify at least one resource you intend to use in the future to find peer-reviewed research.

Note:Add your work for this Assignment to the original document you began in the Module 1 Assignment, which was built from theAcademic Success and Professional Development Plan Template.

Big Data Risks And Rewards

When you wake in the morning, you may reach for your cell phone to reply to a few text or email messages that you missed overnight. On your drive to work, you may stop to refuel your car. Upon your arrival, you might swipe a key card at the door to gain entrance to the facility. And before finally reaching your workstation, you may stop by the cafeteria to purchase a coffee.

From the moment you wake, you are in fact a data-generation machine. Each use of your phone, every transaction you make using a debit or credit card, even your entrance to your place of work, creates data. It begs the question: How much data do you generate each day? Many studies have been conducted on this, and the numbers are staggering: Estimates suggest that nearly 1 million bytes of data are generated every second for every person on earth.

As the volume of data increases, information professionals have looked for ways to use big data—large, complex sets of data that require specialized approaches to use effectively. Big data has the potential for significant rewards—and significant risks—to healthcare. In this Discussion, you will consider these risks and rewards.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on the web article Big Data Means Big Potential, Challenges for Nurse Execs
  • Reflect on your own experience with complex health information access and management and consider potential challenges and risks you may have experienced or observed.

  • Chapter 25, “The Art of Caring in Technology-Laden Environments” (pp. 525–535)
  • Chapter 26, “Nursing Informatics and the Foundation of Knowledge” (pp. 537–551)

Post a description of at least one potential benefit of using big data as part of a clinical system and explain why. Then, describe at least one potential challenge or risk of using big data as part of a clinical system and explain why. Propose at least one strategy you have experienced, observed, or researched that may effectively mitigate the challenges or risks of using big data you described. Be specific and provide examples.

“Captain of the Ship” Project – Bipolar Disorders

week 5: Assignment 1: “Captain of the Ship” Project – Bipolar Disorders

Bipolar disorders are severe disorders of mood that include both depressive episodes and expansive, grandiose, or manic episodes. During these times, the person may engage in activities with little awareness of the consequences because of accompanying psychosis. A diagnosis of bipolar disorder includes periods of mania or hypomania and periods of depression where the mood is down, hopeless, and suicidal. The neurovegetative symptoms of bipolar depression can be incapacitating. It is also important to differentiate the psychosis of bipolar disorder from schizophrenia.

In this Assignment, you will become the “captain of the ship” as you provide treatment recommendations and identify medical management, community support resources, and follow-up plans for a client with a bipolar disorder.

Learning Objectives

Students will:

· Recommend psychopharmacologic treatments based on therapeutic end points for clients with bipolar disorders

· Recommend psychotherapy based on therapeutic end points for clients with bipolar disorders

· Identify community support resources for clients with bipolar disorders

· Recommend follow-up plans for clients with bipolar disorders

To prepare for this Assignment:

· Select an adult or older adult client with a bipolar disorder that you have seen in your practicum.

In 4 pages, write a treatment plan for your client. In which you do the following:

Introduction and Theses statement

In the heatlhcare setting we have to use all different kinds of resourves that helps make it run smoothly. Financial resources help pay for supplies, and employees to care for the patients. Technological resources help the healthcare professional in many ways. They are able to save money with no paper charts and everything being electronic. We are also able to see what has been done in the past and less issues with duplicate therapies are occurring.

Discussion2

One of the main purposes of the Continuity of Care is to make appropriate use of resources; human, physical, technological and mainly financial. Reading articles about this topic, I am struck by one that mentions the importance of providers providing accurate information to avoid wasting available resources (Price-Olsen, 2018). With the correct information and making use of the Continuity of Care nursing strategy, inappropriate use of resources is reduced by decreasing readmissions, duplicating laboratory tests and using technology, unnecessary follow up visits etc.         Remember that as nurses it is our responsibility to act as patient’s advocate; so, we must worry about patients receiving the best care, making the best use of resources to limit costs and make health services more accessible to the population. The health system in the United States is suffering from many disadvantages and disparities such as: Despite the high health costs, the services received are not the best; on average, 14% of a household’s economic resources are devoted to health care; a good percentage of the population are underinsuranced or uninsuranced (Christ, 2019)        In a health system that has deficiencies, mainly financial, it is very important to make good use of the available resources. The role of the nurses in the proper use of them is important, as patients’ advocates the nurses must watch for the use of the already limited health services avoiding the misuse of them to guarantee access to more people and procure the continuity of care for the patients. If the use of resources is not efficient and effective, the already high costs of medical services increase even more; the already deficient available resources are exhausted for the cases that need them, the unnecessary use of medical consultations prolongs the waiting times to receive a consultation, the unnecessary use or the duplication of laboratory and radiological exams increases the costs and moves away the appointments for the same. By making adequate use of the resources we achieve marked benefits for the covered population.
