Not only are they under paid but even though we are now in 2019, female nurses get paid less than male nurses and also suffer discrimination and abuse mostly from patients. Due to the shortage of nurses, there nurses face working longer shifts than they are supposed to which is also a hazard to themselves, the patients, and the work area. When nurses work very long hours without a break they are at risk of making unintended mistakes whether it be giving wrong medication, writing the wrong thing on the patient’s chart, mixing patient’s up, etc. It’s a bad situation when there are many people who need to be taken care of and there aren’t many nurses, the wait time is longer and this is when patient’s become frustrated and abusive towards them. I believe that being that nurses are always needed, something should be done about the nurse’s pay in order to call more attention to the position and get more people interested again like they used to be. Programs should also be made available. When I had to choose a high school at the end of middle school, we were given 4 programs to choose from, medical, law, fashion, and shop. Many of the students who took the medical program went on to good schools with the help of the medical program director and ended up working in the medical field. I feel that programs like this should continue to be offered.

· One of the most discussed issues involving Human Resources and healthcare today is staff shortages. According to the text, subacute care is comprehensive, cost-effective inpatient level of care for patients who have experienced an acute (or traumatic) event. Therefore, patients in subacute facilities demand a higher sense of urgency when providing care. For example, two patients are admitted into a subacute facility for multiple wounds and maintenance of antibiotic therapy. The task of providing quality care for these patients may require nursing staff to be in each patients’ room for 45 minutes to an hour. That’s 2 hours one nurse is off the floor while other nursing needs still require attention. Subacute facilities suffering from staff shortages poses a huge problem to the maintenance of quality care for the patients and the overall wellbeing of the facility not only for the facility but the staff working under those conditions.

Because nursing staff are under intense pressure to continue to meet the demands of these patients with little to no support can lead to other issues such as high staff turnover rates, burnout, low patient turnover rate. Solutions to the issue of staff shortages are pretty obvious. Facilities must be willing to encourage their employees with generous and competitive salaries and benefits packages for new employees. This would work to resolve the high staff turnover rate. Maintain a consistent but vigorous hiring process. Keeping staff in constant rotation can help offset the staff shortages while lowering the turnover rate and increasing productive and patient satisfaction. Thank you

 Elder abuse is defined as any knowing, intention, or negligent act that causes harm or a serious risk of harm to a vulnerable older adult. (Miller. C. 2018) I chose self-neglect and neglect. These two are the ones I have seen most often in my nursing career. Self-neglect is when a person fails to be able to take care of themselves, but refuses help of any kind. I have seen many elderly people refused rehab or long-term nursing home placement and I knew they were not capable of taking care of themselves. I feel like the only way to stop them from refusing help is to educate them about different services and why they are important. The other thing I would suggest is not to be afraid as a healthcare provider to speak up and bring it to the patient’s attention that they cannot take care of themselves and why you believe that. Neglect is when another person who is supposed to be responsible for you everyday life and they fail to do so. We see this sometimes too. The patient’s family is not taking care of them to the best of their ability and they come in nasty and not bathed. Or they are underweight. The only way I can see to abolish this type of neglect is to report the cases to the adult protective services. Then they will be followed outside the hospital and someone will be making sure that they are take care of. Encouraging home health or hospice would help that way someone would be in and out of the house a few times a week to help the patient with their everyday needs.

Technology is playing an important role in the reduction the healthcare costs. The training programs needed for the technology required to deal with issues related to healthcare cost is to automate administrative tasks for the purposes of ensuring that there is a more efficient use of the doctor’s time. 

Healthcare workers need to be trained on the process of digitizing the repetitive tasks to help in cutting down the number of hours being taken by the physician in treating the patients. Usually, the administrative expenditure is accounting to more than a quarter of the total sum of healthcare facility expenditure in the United States. This value is higher than any other first world nations. Physicians are taking less than 27 percent of the time in treating patients and a major percentage of this time is taken on administrative responsibilities. 

Therefore, in order to achieve these tasks for the purposes of reducing healthcare costs, healthcare providers need to be trained. The training program is also specifically focusing on artificial intelligence and the basic software to help in equipping these employees with the knowledge required for the limiting and automating physician interaction with the electronic health records. The training program also includes teaching employees more the physicians and nurses on the method of using software to import test results and make complete paperwork instead of performing manual entrance of tests outcome or simply filling out the intake forms. 

The receptionists are also supposed to be trained on the automated roles so that they are in a position of assisting on the general administrative responsibilities like appointment bookings and the reminders through the digitalized procedure. Making of appointment and reminders are some of the common administrative duties which can be automated to ease the burden faced by the clinical administrative staffs and the physicians. It can also help in reducing the burnout and allowing the shifting of paperwork to patients thus reducing medication errors which also cost a lot to the healthcare organizations. It also helps in reducing the number of administrators being hired to perform all these responsibilities which involves paperwork. 

For the purposes of ensuring the continuity of the program, the newly recruited staffs will have to pass through three-month training on areas related to the process of digitizing the repetitive tasks and training on artificial intelligence and the basic software.
