Welcome to Module 2! In today’s nursing environment, stress and burnout are a tremendous issue and we all know that day to day nursing is full of potential physical stressors from lifting and bending, call lights, exposure to toxic chemicals, and working long hours. Let’s be honest, being a caregiving can be draining and emotionally stressful yet there are additional emotional and mental challenges facing nurses such as the expectation to develop and maintain relationships with peers, doctors, patients, and management staff, take care of the dying, and the increased risk of violence in the healthcare setting. In addition, nurses are often under strain due to the short-staffing issue. This module opens up a discussion related to nurse burnout, role stress and strain in nursing, what happens to patient care, and interventions to manage.

Role Strain and Burnout in Nursing

Write a 1000-1500 word essay addressing each of the following points/questions. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. There should be three main sections, one for each bullet below. Separate each section in your paper with a clear heading that allows your professor to know which bullet you are addressing in that section of your paper. Support your ideas with at least three (3) sources using citations in your essay. Make sure to cite using the APA writing style for the essay. · What happens to the nurse when role stress or strain becomes too overwhelming? What happens to patient care? How is this related to possible ethic and legal issues? Discuss how nurses can manage or reduce role stress and role strain.

In order to improve patient outcomes and ensure appropriate decision making, it is essential that evidence-based practice (EBP) be incorporated into patient clinical experiences (Polit & Beck, 2017). EBP should be a priority in this current day and age of healthcare. Patient healthcare decisions should be designed according to the most up to date available clinical evidence. This clinical evidence should be focused on safe and efficient patient care. In many facilities, my own included, EBP is encouraged to be incorporated into daily clinical practice. Unfortunately, the practical process and resources that are necessary for achieving EBP are frequently not available or successful (Aitken et al., 2011). In order to improve and increase EBP utilization in healthcare, nurse-led EBP programs have been put in place. My current institution is currently trialing a nurse-led EBP in the ICU. This program consists of 3 nurses that complete daily rounds in the ICU to evaluate the efficacy of specific protocols or products such as oral care on ventilated patients being completed every 2 hours. 

According to Cullen & Adams (2012), nurse-led research is increasingly recognized as an essential pathway to effective and practical was of improving patient outcomes. The dissemination of EBP should be a top priority. Effective dissemination strategies provide a pathway for knowledge to be shared and inspire further innovations. In order to disseminate EBP findings, my institution uses its website to post the most current and up to date clinical findings. The healthcare staff members are expected to review newly posted information on a weekly basis. When it comes to instituting an excellence-focused culture in healthcare, nursing research and EBP are required along with the integration of a professional practice model (Aitken et al., 2011). In order to achieve this great feat, nurses and all healthcare staff alike need to be encouraged to participate in scholarly activities (Aitken et al., 2011). Healthcare institutions should also have readily available resources for nurses and staff members to investigate the most current EBP methods.

. My approach in identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed reach is to assess the quality of articles submitted for publication in the scholarly journal. The author of an article must submit it to the journal editor, who will then forward the article to experts in the field which is consider the “peer review”. The peer review are charged with careful evaluate the quality of the submit manuscript. After which they now check the manuscript for accuracy and assess the validity of the research methodology and procedures, if appropriate and accurate, they will suggest revisions. A peer reviewed journal will not be published articles that fail to meet the standards established for a given discipline, peer reviewed that are accepted articles that are accepted for publication exemplify the best research practices in a field.

. Two strategies that you I would use that I found to be effective in the finding peer-reviewed research are 1. Does the article have been published in a scholarly journal and 2. Is the journal in which I found the article published or sponsored by professional scholarly society; professional association or university academic department. Does it describe itself as a peer-reviewed?

. One research I intended to use in the future to find peer-reviewed research; is to search the online library databases. Many of which include peer-reviewed journals, read the databases description to determine if it features peer-reviewed articles. When search for articles, choose the advanced search option on the search screen to look for a checkbox that allows you to limit results to peer-reviewed only.

I have developed a curriculum vitae to capture my academic and professional accomplishments to date. I have also developed a statement identifying one or more professional development goals, and a statement proposing how I might align one or more of these professional development goals with the University’s emphasis on social change.

Self-satisfaction is an important thing that defines my engagement in the helping profession because it provides a strong focus on my personal needs and development goals. My personal goals revolve around having a strong influence on the lives of many people. My values have also formed a significant role in determining my attention to helping others.

I have a strong passion for serving others. Being a servant even when in high positions shows that I share the feeling and experiences of people who need my help. Being available when they need me is integral to achieving a higher level of commitment. Passion helps in determining elements, which represent the decisions that are made regarding the best approach to counter specific problems. It is fulfilling to have a positive influence on the wellbeing of another person especially when the perceived control might be instrumental in shaping his or her future success.

Alignment with social change

Social changes are based on the ability to understand the underlying factors which provide a greater emphasis on essential elements which help attain more significant outcomes. My professional goals are committed to creating meaningful social change especially considering the need to provide a unique focus on crucial elements which help define improved outcomes within the healthcare setting. As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I have an obligation towards my clients who will be positively engaged based on excellent patient-centered care. Technology skills will help in managing patient medical information which is private and confidential.

Working in a culturally diverse healthcare organization has been essential in building a healthy level of commitment where it is possible to achieve the underlying goals. Analytical skills that define my wellbeing include communication skills. Communication skills integrate many concepts which include the complete package. Every individual has needs which are essential in creating a highly diverse understanding of necessary measures that can ensure that I am positively influenced within my work engagement. The development of this plan is aimed at improving my experience across different workplace settings.

Crafting a strong personal, coherent, public identity or brand will be based on my personal and professional development to ensure that there is no conflict between these elements. Therefore, in providing that I develop a strong professional identity communication plan, I will develop an e-portfolio through the institution, which I will use to integrate critical information about myself and my perspective. An e-portfolio is essential considering that employers can access it can assess my quality and ability to improve on my skills and professional development.
