Issue Analysis and Leadership Action Plan

Issue Analysis and Leadership Action Plan

Collaborate on Quality: Issue Analysis and Leadership Action Plan

  • Prepare an issue analysis of an incident that occurred in a health care organization and create a leadership action plan (8-10 pages) that will help to address the specific incident but will also help to drive safety and quality improvements throughout the organization.

In this third assessment in the course, you will assume the role of a newly promoted quality manager at your local hospital. This role requires you to address deficiencies by improving organizational culture, providing leadership oversight, and cultivating staff relationships within the organization. While you have many priorities in this new role, one of your first is to analyze a recent incident that occurred within the organization and to create a leadership action plan with recommended strategies and tactics to address not just the specific incident, but to drive safety and quality improvement throughout the organization. This assessment differs from the first assessment in that with this assessment, as the quality manager, your focus is broader. Rather than focusing only on identifying specific actions the organization can take to remedy a particular incident that occurred, you are concentrating on what steps you will take as the quality manager to influence the organization’s leadership to cultivate a fair and just culture. You will determine what departments, what leaders, and what personnel you will collaborate with to improve quality for the whole organization. In this type of culture, safety is at the forefront of everyone’s job and all associates welcome the opportunity to highlight issues—without fear of reprisal—so that they can be addressed at a systemic level throughout the organization. You may find it useful to review the short document CQI Importance and Features [PDF] as you gather your thoughts about the key elements you want to include in your assessment, Issue Analysis and Leadership Action Plan. Demonstration of Proficiency By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria: Issue Analysis and Leadership Action Plan

ORDER A PLAGIARISM-FREE PAPER HERE

  • Competency 4: Apply leadership strategies to quality improvement in a health care organization.
    • Apply the IHI Triple Aim to develop a health care leadership strategy that focuses on optimizing health care system performance.
    • Propose evidence-based leadership strategies that will help to establish a safety and quality culture.
    • Propose evidence-based leadership and collaboration strategies to enlist the aid of key organizational leaders in establishing a safety and quality culture.

    • Provide citations and title and reference pages that conform to APA style and format.

Preparation To help prepare for successfully completing this assessment:

  • Select one of the three incidents from the Vila Health: Patient Safety simulation you completed in Assessment 1. These are common incidents you are likely to encounter in the health care field. These included a patient identification error, a medication error, and a HIPAA/privacy violation. You may select one of the incidents you worked with in the previous assessments or select another one. Pick one that holds the most interest for you.
  • Consider these analysis questions once you have selected the incident on which you will focus:
    • What information do you possess about the issue? (Note:You may not be able to answer all of these questions; just include the information you know.) Consider:
      • Who was involved?
      • During what process (clinical, communication, operational) did the issue occur?
      • When did the issue occur? During a particular shift? On a particular day? During peak hours? Under certain clinical circumstances?
      • Where did the issue occur?
    • What additional data about the incident would you like to collect and analyze?
    • Which best practices may not have been adhered to that may have contributed to the issue? (Note:This information will prove useful to you as you complete your analysis and leadership action plan.) Issue Analysis and Leadership Action Plan

Instructions Write an analysis and leadership action plan for the issue you selected that will enable you to address the issue on an organization-wide basis. Please make sure to include all of the following headings and answer all of the questions underneath each heading. Issue Summary

  • How would you summarize the key elements of the incident that occurred?
  • What is your goal in addressing the issue?
  • Which two to three key items will be your focus? For example, you may elect to focus on nursing staffing levels if being short staffed in nursing is contributing to compromises to patient safety.

IHI Triple Aim

  • What is the IHI Triple AIM?
  • How does the IHI Triple Aim apply to this specific incident?
  • What IHI Triple Aim elements will you incorporate into your organizational improvement strategy?

Culture

  • What is culture?
  • Why is culture a critical organizational priority for safety and quality?
  • Based on the knowledge you have about the selected issue, what do you know about the existing organizational culture?
  • What are some of the evidence-based strategies you are considering you could employ to cultivate a culture of safety?

Collaboration

  • Which key departments need to be directly involved with the corrective action process?
  • What is your rationale for selecting these departments? For example, you may want to involve nursing because many of errors involve nurses and obtaining their buy-in is critical to achieving the organizational priority.
  • Which specific senior leader, front line staff member, and clinical expert will you include in your action plan and hold accountable for implementation?
  • What are the implications of not engaging with all departments toward making safety and quality top of mind?
  • How might you involve other departments in addressing the specific issue and the cultural issue?

Leadership

  • Which specific leaders within the organization could assist you in addressing this issue and in making patient safety and quality top of mind throughout the organization? Examples for you to consider include the chief nursing officer, the chief medical officer, the patient safety officer, et cetera.
  • What role do you expect these leaders to play in addressing the specific issue and the issue of culture?
  • What best practices would you employ to enlist their aid in the improvement effort?
  • What role does the organization’s governing board have in terms of quality and safety in the organization?
  • How could you enlist the governing board’s aid in your improvement initiative?
  • What additional information could you provide them to increase their involvement in the organization’s safety and quality improvement efforts? Issue Analysis and Leadership Action Plan

Leadership Action Plan

  • What are three evidence-based actions you recommend that would help to solve the incident that arose?
  • What are three evidence-based best practices you recommend to address the issue on an organizational level?

Conclusion

  • How will you summarize your analysis of the incident and your leadership action plan?

Remember that health care is an evidence-based field. You will need to cite a minimum of two credible references to support your analysis and action planning process. In addition, in the health care field, your analysis and action plan would not typically be written in APA format. Do ensure that it is clear, persuasive, concise, organized, and without errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Do provide citations and title and reference pages in APA format. Other leaders in your organization are going to want to know what sources you relied on to prepare your analysis and action plan. Additional Requirements

  • Length: Your incident analysis and leadership action plan will be 8–10 double-spaced pages, not including title and reference pages.
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point.
  • APA Format: Your citations and title and reference pages need to be in APA format. The body of your analysis does not need to be written in APA format. It does need to be well written, include the headings specified in the instructions, and address the questions listed under each heading.
  • Scoring Guide: Please review this assessment’s scoring guide to ensure you understand how your faculty member will evaluate your work.

Property/Analysis Data
Washington Tower is a 60,000 SF office building located at 140 Washington Avenue, Houston, TX. The
subject property was constructed in 1985. You are to perform a five-year holding period investment analysis of
the subject property. The analysis start date is December 1, 2008. The overall rate of inflation is expected to be
3% annually. Reimbursement calculations will be performed on a calendar basis while other revenues and
expenses will be inflated on a fiscal basis. Operating expenses are 100% fixed unless noted otherwise. The
purchase price of the property is $7.8M.
Miscellaneous Revenues
In addition to base rent, revenue is derived from roof antennae fees and from parking. Roof antennae fees are
expected to be $45,000 for year one and are expected to increase 2.5% per year. The building has 250 parking
spaces to rent at $25/month.
Projected Recoverable Expenses
Real estate taxes are estimated at $1.75 per square foot in year 1. Thereafter, the tax liability is expected to
increase at the overall rate of inflation.
Insurance coverage includes fires, extended coverage, liability and other space coverage required by this
property type. This expense is estimated at $0.18 per square foot initially and is expected to increase at the
overall rate of inflation over the expected holding period.
Maintenance & Repairs are $1.85 per square foot for year 1 and are expected to increase at the overall rate of
inflation during the holding period. These expenses include all interior and exterior maintenance and repairs,
contracts pertaining to repairs such as elevator repairs, mechanical equipment, etc.
Janitorial expenses are estimated at $95,000 for year 1. These expenses are expected to increase 4% per year.
Utilities include electricity, water and sewer. The current cost is $0.95/SF at 100% occupancy. It is estimated
that 35% of the first year’s utility cost would still be incurred by the property if it were totally vacant. Utility
costs are expected to increase at the overall rate of inflation.
Roads, Grounds and Security typically includes all salary related items for grounds (including landscaping),
maintenance, and security as well as outside contract services. The roads/grounds/security expense is currently
$0.45/SF and is expected to increase at the overall rate of inflation over the expected holding period.
Projected Non-Recoverable Expenses
Management and Administrative Expenses are projected at 4% of effective gross revenue (equal to historical
amounts). Analysis of this expense consisted of interviews with representatives of major office building
management companies.
Capital Expenditures
The subject property’s roof is partially defective and will need major repairs in October 2010. Current estimates
from contractors indicate the expense will total approximately $195,000 in current dollars. This expense is
expected to increase 5% per year.
2
Vacancy and Credit Loss
To account for vacancy loss, a 7% allowance is applied to the property’s potential gross revenue. This
allowance will be taken only if the deduction made for vacant periods occurring between leases is less than this
amount. The Credit and Collection Loss is expected to be 2% of potential gross income.

Notes for Rent Roll:
Management Group has notified management that they are vacating at the end of their current lease.
Absorption
Given the recent leasing of Suite 200, Temp 2 Perm Agency, the property is 75% occupied. Currently, 12,000
SF is unfinished (slab) and vacant. This space is not included in the rent roll. Additionally, another 3,000 SF
(already shown on the rent roll) is second-generation space, which is currently vacant. The building has an
excellent location and is a very good quality Class B office building.
In the analysis of the subject property, an absorption rate of 2,000 SF per quarter is reasonable for the
unfinished areas considering the amount and location of the space at the subject property. The unfinished area
is available at the beginning of the analysis with absorption projected to begin July 2009. To prepare this
currently vacant first generation space for occupancy, a $20.00/SF tenant improvement allowance is assumed.
Also, a 5% leasing commission is assigned to each 2,000 SF office. Lease terms will be 5 years and rent will be
100% of current market rent.
3
Market Data
Quoted rates and actual recent lease terms at comparable office buildings were analyzed to determine current
market rent. The building has two classifications of office space. One is for offices of less than 20,000 SF and
the other is for offices of more than 20,000 SF.
For offices less than 20,000SF:
Renewal Probability: 70%
Market Rent: $23.00/SF for new tenants
$20.00/SF for renewing tenants
Months Vacant: 4 months downtime between leases
Tenant Improvements: A $10.00/SF tenant improvement allowance for renewing tenants
and $12.00/SF allowance for new tenants occupying previously fitted
out space.
Leasing Commissions: Initial/new leasing commissions are estimated at 4%.
Renewing tenants require a 2% leasing commission
Reimbursements: Base Year Stop
Term Lengths: 5 Years
For offices more than 20,000SF:
Renewal Probability: 85%
Market Rent: $21.00/SF for new tenants
$19.00/SF for renewing tenants
Months Vacant: 6 months downtime between leases
Tenant Improvements: An $8.00/SF tenant improvement allowance for renewing tenants
and $11.00/SF allowance for new tenants occupying previously fitted
out space.
Leasing Commissions: Initial/new leasing commissions are estimated at 4%.
Renewing tenants require a 2% leasing commission
Reimbursements: Base Year Stop
Term Lengths: 10 Years
Terminal Value
The reversion value (expected future sales price) is estimated by capitalizing the year eight net operating
income, after adjusting for tenant improvements and leasing commissions. The terminal capitalization rate is
expected to be in the 7.5% to 8.5% range. The subject property is in a good location and is one of the better
quality office buildings in the area. The property is currently 22 years old. Selling expenses, including
commissions and closing costs, are estimated to be 3% of the gross sales and proceeds. This estimate is
reasonable considering the size and value of the subject property.
Discounted Cash Flow Analysis
The subject property is a modern office building constructed of very good quality materials and is well
maintained. In addition, it is located in close proximity to major roadways. Further, future construction of
office buildings is expected to be minimal and new generation buildings are experiencing high occupancies
(91%+). The subject property is currently below stabilized occupancy because of the unfinished space. Given
these considerations, an annual end-point property (e.g. unlevered) discount rate of 12.0% is considered
appropriate.

Questions:

  1. Ignoring financing alternatives, is this property a good investment?
  2. What purchase price provides the owner with the 12.0% unlevered required rate of return?
  3. You have three financing alternatives.
    a. A 70% loan/value ratio loan with a 6.25% annual interest rate with monthly payments, a 30 year
amortization schedule with one discount point, 2% other financing costs, and a 3% prepayment penalty.
The market required rate of return on after debt, before tax equity for 70% L/V ratio loans is 14%.
    b. A 75% loan/value ratio loan with an 6.5% annual interest rate with monthly interest only payments for
five years, one discount point, 2% other financing costs, and a 3% prepayment penalty. The loan begins
to amortize after the initial five-year period. The amortization period is 25 years. The market required
rate of return on after debt, before tax equity for 75% L/V ratio loans is 16%.
    c. An 80% loan/value ratio loan with monthly payments of $41,500 and a balloon payment of $6M at the
end of the five-year holding period. The loan also has two discount points and 2% other financing costs.
The market required rate of return on after debt, before tax equity for 80% L/V ratio loans of this type is
    18%.
Which financing alternative, if any, should you use?
  4. You are planning to structure the acquisition as a partnership with two other investors using the most
favorable financing option. You are the general partner and plan to contribute 20% of the required
equity. The remaining equity will be divided equally between the two limited partners—Bill Jones and
Mary Smith. The distributions will be structured differently. Bill wants current income while Mary
wants capital appreciation. You propose to give Bill a 9% cumulative preferred return on all operating
year cash flows plus 60% of any excess cash. Any unpaid return will accumulate at 10% per year. Mr.
Jones will receive 20% of the BTCF from the sale of the property. Mary Smith is willing to forego
current income in exchange for 50% before tax cash flow from the sale of the property. The general
partner must cover any assessments and receives all residual distributions. What are the expected
partnership returns? Is this structure appropriate for the three equity positions? Why or why not? If
not, suggest a more equitably structured partnership agreement.

Reviewing the concepts of ethnic conflict and totalitarianism:

Often students are confused on what constitutes an ethnic conflict. Before you select a topic for this assignment, be sure to review the information below to gain a better understanding of what constitutes Totalitarianism and ethnic conflict.

Totalitarianism and ethnic conflict are not the same as violent act committed by a police officer that was officially deemed as being racially motivated. Ethnic conflict is when government has discriminatory policies in place. Slavery and segregation were examples of ethnic conflict. Many students confuse recent events of violence or shooting by police officers on individuals as examples of ethnic conflict. However, not all of those actions were acts of racially motivated violence.  In addition, they were committed by individuals in the execution of their job, which are subject to review and oversight (administrative and legal), and if deemed excessive and/or racially motivated, will be sanctioned and prosecuted because they would go against standing policies and laws that do not allow excessive force in the execution of police duties or racially motivated violence against others (by police or any other person). In the 1960s and earlier, we had state governments requiring African Americans to be segregated. This was an example of ethnic conflict. We do not have government policy in this country today promoting the harassment or killing of people because of their race.

If a person kills another person, it is a legal issue. If the killing took place because of the race of the person, it is also a hate crime. It is not designated as ethnic conflict. Topics centered on racial inequity such as Black Lives Matter, while important and viable topics in the context of race relations and social justice, are not the same as ethnic conflict in Totalitarian regimes and so are not appropriate topics for this assignment.

Instructions
Write a paper on a current event article that discusses restrictions on freedoms by a totalitarian state or an article on ethnic conflict within a nation. Summarize the article and explain why this issue is important to the global community. What outside influences might help change this issue? How? Is the article neutral? Why or why not?

Be sure to include a scanned copy of the article in your submission in addition to citations. Articles may not be more than one month old.

Comparison of SORT algorithms

The objective of this Assignment is to compare the performance of some standard SORT algorithms.

You should look at MergeSort, QuickSort, (see attached code) and Selection Sort (from Week 2); you can also look at an additional Sort mechanism that isn’t covered in class or that isn’t covered in the book for extra credit. OR you can find an implmentation of Radix Sort.

You will have to find the right implementation in Java so that you can make your comparisons for the 4th algorithm (if you choose to go for the extra credit).

Things you will be comparing are the raw running time (measured with Java time functionality) and the time complexity (iteration count) in terms of a key operation for the algorithms (ex: as we discussed in class for Selection Sort comparisons are often a good way of measuring the time complexity of sort algorithms), for this purpose you’ll have to use meaningful count variables.

Refer to https://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/lang/System.html for time methods.

Use:

https://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/lang/System.html#currentTimeMillis()

or

https://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/lang/System.html#nanoTime()

as you see fit.

Testing:

When comparing algorithms you want to make sure that you use a wide variety of test cases. In your case, you should have at least 4 different example sets on which to run your tests, each test case should have at least 20 numbers.

Report:

If you chose a 4th algorithm for extra credit, discuss which is the 4th algorithm and why you chose that.

You must have MergeSort, QuickSort, and Selection Sort.

Discuss your plan for testing. Explain the 4 test cases that you chose and explain briefly why you chose those test cases. Test cases must have at least 50 integers or more.

Summarize your results for both measured running time and time complexity.

Describe your conclusions including insights, and surprises if any. How does the measured time complexity compare with the expected O cost?

Grading:
1. Test plan and code implementation: 50 points
2. Report and results: 40 points

3. What is the sorting mechanism that Arrays.sort() uses? How does that compare with the others? 10 points

4. Extra credit: up to 20 points

MAKE SURE TO USE TEAMS for discussion and to clear doubts.

You can either use the class attached or you can copy and paste into separate classes.

Leadership Health Care Organizations Practicum

Please provide me with responses to the following questions. Also, kindly separate each unit from each other and with individual references. I need about 200 words for each unit and no plagiarisms.

UNIT 11

How do you serve others in the profession of nursing? Explain how the way you serve others in the profession of nursing could become more closely aligned with the issue of serving as explained by the servant-leadership paradigm. How does the issue of serving differ from the secular view of power?

UNIT 12

Choose one provision from the ANA Code of Ethics. How is ethical behavior an integral part of being a nurse leader? How does one display the characteristics of a role model with this provision? Does a nurse leader have an ethical foundation to inject into business practice?

UNIT 13

Have you ever worked with a leader that made you feel that you were more important than they? How did this make you feel? What were the circumstances? What was the outcome? If you have never experienced this kind of treatment from a leader, imagine what it would be like. Based on your response, explain how the displays of humility by a leader exemplify servant leadership. Are displays of humility required to make someone else feel more important than you? Explain your answer.

UNIT 14

How do you affirm people at work? When your coworkers talk about you, what do they say about you? Based on the textbook, relate your responses to the issue of preference according to the servant-leadership paradigm. Compare this form of leadership with the secular view of power as it relates to working relationships.

UNIT 15

Summarize your leadership practicum in relation to the seven distinct characteristics outlined in the textbook. How will you change your behavior based on this new understanding of servant leadership? What strategies did you learn that, if implemented, would allow you to actualize the servant-leadership principles in a leadership role?

Bendle, N. T., & Bagga, C. K. (2016). The metrics that marketers muddle. MIT Sloan Management
Review, 57(3), 73-82.
Despite their widely acknowledged importance, some popular marketing metrics are regularly misunderstood and
misused. One major reason for marketing’s diminishing role is the difficulty of meaning its impact: The value marketers
generate is often difficult to quantify. The main goals of this article are to understand how these marketing metrics are
used and understood and to develop ideas to help marketers unmuddle their metrics. The authors conducted surveys
from managers from all functions across the business-to-business and business-to-consumer industries. Article Notes Paper.
5 Best Known Marketing Metrics:

ORDER A PLAGIARISM-FREE PAPER NOW

– Market share
– Net Promoter Score (NPS)
– The Value of a ‘Like’
– Consumer Lifetime Value (CLV)
– Return on Investment (ROI)
Market Share
Market share is a popular marketing metric. One reason for why manager value market share is that research
from the 1970s suggested a link between market share and ROI; however, the linkage may be less clear: the
studies have found it is often correlational rather than causal. The survey found that there were two ways
managers used market share: as an ultimate objective or as an intermediate measure of success. Increasing
market share is not a meaningful ultimate objective for maximizing shareholder value and stakeholder
management: If the aim is to maximize the returns to shareholders, increased market share offers no benefits
unless it eventually generates profits. In some markets, bigger can be better; however, economies of scale do not
automatically apply all markets.
Unmuddling Market Share:
The authors suggest a simple set of rules for the appropriate use of the market share metric:
– Managers should not consider market share as the ultimate objective or as a proxy for absolute size.
– Managers should evaluate it from the competitors’ and consumers’ point of view. If an increase in market
share is not going to get positive feedback from competitors and consumers, then an increase in market share
will not lead to a productive result.
– Managers should analyze whether market share drives profitability in your industry.  Article Notes Paper.Companies with
superior products tend to have high market share and high profitability because product superiority causes both.
4/24/2020 onlinetext.html
file:///Users/matthewfisher/Downloads/MKTG064903-S20R-Article Notes The Metrics that Marketers Muddle-359053/Marina Hamagaki_504182_assignsubmission… 2/3
This means that the two metrics are correlated, BUT it does not necessarily mean that increasing market share
will increase profits.
Net Promoter Score (NPS)
This metric is used to measure customer loyalty to a firm. Companies among diverse industries have embraced
NPS as a way to monitor their customer service operations while NPS also has been seen as a system that allows
managers to use the scores to shape managerial actions.
One of the advantages of NPS is its simplicity: It is easy for managers and employees to understand the goal of
having more promoters and fewer detractors. However, there are weaknesses: E.g., in the net promoter literature,
a customer’s worth to Apple has been described as the customer’s spending, ignoring the costs associated with
serving the customer. It is also easy to imagine how to increase the net promoter score (such as making
customers happier) while destroying even to-line growth (by slashing prices). Another problem with NPS as a
metric is the classification system: The boundaries between scores of 6 and 7 (detractors and passives) and 8 and
9 (passive and promoters) seem somewhat arbitrary and culturally specific. Article Notes Paper.
Unmuddling NPS:
The value of NPS depends on whether a manager sees it as a metric or as a system. The authors suggest that the
NPS metric cannot change the marketing performance. However, they advise using this metric as a part of a
system employed in evaluating the performance which might lead to a cultural shift within the organization.
The Value of a ‘Like’
This metric is used for measuring the social media capital of the company. New approaches are being developed
all the time and they have the potential to aid understanding of how social media creates value. It is measured as
the difference between the average value of customers endorsing the company and the average value of the
customers who are not endorsing the company. The majority of managers link between their social media
spending the value of a ‘like’. However, it does not mean that the cause of the differences in users’ value is
attributable to a company’s social media strategy. And the reason that social media strategy shouldn’t be seen as
the driver of value difference between fans and nonfans is because customers who are social media fans will
differ from nonfans for reasons unrelated to the company’s social media strategy.
Unmuddling the Value of a ‘Like’:
This difference between two groups of consumers does not suggest an effect of online marketing activity or lack
thereof. It should be investigated thoroughly by the managers. If the management is using the revenue to
measure customer value, then this marketing metric does not give a good estimate. However, if the company
does want to understand the impact of social media marketing, they should use randomized control experiments
to derive causal answers.

Consumer Lifetime Value (CLV)
Consumer lifetime value (CLV), which is the present value of cash flows from a customer relationship, can help
managers in decision making related to investment in developing customer relationships, as it is used to measure
the value of the current customer base. Article Notes Paper. If the management is using the customer value in their decision-making
process, then CLV is a useful tool for them.

The authors suggest that CLV calculations should not include the customer acquisition cost and the estimated
CLV should be compared to the estimated acquisition cost to derive conclusions. The bigger the difference
between the estimated CLV and the estimated acquisition cost, the better the acquisition campaign.
Return on Investment (ROI)
Return on investment is a popular and potentially important metric allowing for the comparison of disparate
investments. A critical requirement for calculating ROI is knowing the net profit generated by a specific
investment decision. According to the authors, there is confusion within management over the use of ROI.
However, as ROI is understood across disciplines, it is a powerful metric to communicate across the
organization.
Unmuddling ROI:
The authors advise that if a manager is assessing the financial return on an investment, then ROI is an
appropriate metric and can be calculated by dividing the incremental profits by the investments. Agribusiness
marketing managers who are passionate about establishing the credibility of the value created through marketing
should be thorough in their use of metrics. Most importantly, they should be able to understand the metric, its use
and what it represents. Article Notes Paper.

Sara—

Post a brief description of the population and one child or adolescent issue (i.e., social, emotional, behavioral) with which you might be interested in working and explain why.
The population I choose to work with currently are children in the foster care system with behavioral issues. This population is one that I feel doesn’t get a lot of attention and tends to age out of the system then rejoin the system through a different avenue such as homelessness or incarceration. In working with the children and their caregivers simultaneously, I can address the concerns at the moment and provide the tools that the client and caregiver can continue to utilize when I am not in session. The children/adolescents in foster care tend to be looked at as broken children or as the victim when in reality the client wants to be seen as just a child or adolescent instead of someone who has gone through trauma. We must recognize that they are still children/adolescents and give them the ability to still be that age but just with some additional tools in their tool chest to help them overcome some obstacles that they will face in life. I also believe that this is an important population to work with as if we can work with client’s from the beginning and be as proactive as possible, then maybe we can decrease the population of homeless young adults or even the amount of people who utilize substances as a way to get through life and to cope with their traumas.

Then, describe one professional strength that may contribute to your effectiveness in working with this population.

Currently, I work as a Therapeutic Behavioral Coach which allows me to work with this population in a variety of settings such as their homes, schools, and community. The professional strength that I believe has helped me to succeed in this role is the ability to meet the client where they are at during each moment of the session. Trauma is not linear so a client may be having a positive and constructive moment then the next they are having difficulty either coping with a situation or being able to properly communicate their needs. It’s also important to recognize that the individual may have stopped developing in a particular area either socially or emotionally during the age at which the trauma occurred. Anxiety Disorders in Children & Adolescents  This means that socially they may still be functioning at a three-year-old level which is when the trauma occurred but chronologically they are five-years-old. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention Milestone Checklist, a typical three-year-old should be taking turns in games and may get upset when there is a change in routine. Now if we look at a typical five-year-old, the child should be showing independence and should be cooperative at times. We may be working with a client who is five but is still having difficulty in taking turns and is having an increase in behaviors due to changes in their daily routine all because the trauma occurred at the age of three.
Finally, explain why it is important for you to assess your strengths and limitations as a clinician working with children and adolescents before working with this population. Be specific and use examples to illustrate your points.

I believe that every worker brings their own unique set of strengths and limitations due to their own lives and upbringings. For example, since I was adopted, I have found that my agency utilizes me more heavily in cases that involve the child being adopted or having recently become adopted as they understand I can relate to the child and I can utilize self-reporting to engage with the client and build a strong level of rapport and trust. I also think in understanding our strengths such as being someone who thinks outside the box when it comes to creating and utilizing a variety of coping skills, then we can work with a larger population of people as we can manipulate coping skills to address the client’s individual needs and their individual strengths. It’s also important to understand our limitations as service providers as this allows for us to understand where we need to educate ourselves on more and where we may need to ask for help from a supervisor or colleague more. Limitations do not define us as service providers nor do our client’s limitations define them as individuals so if we can model that for our client’s maybe we can help them to see that limitation are just bumps in the road that we can overcome with the right tools such as asking for help, coping strategies or engaging in additional research. Tyler—

Brief description of the population and one child or adolescent issue

The population that I am passionate about working with are children/adolescents who have a mental health diagnosis, such as depression, ADHD, or anxiety. I have mental health diagnoses myself and I feel like the experiences I have gone through can be used to help others. Growing up, therapy was not something my parents saw as important or beneficial, and that you only go to therapy if you are “crazy.” I am passionate about helping children reap the benefits of therapy and improve their quality of life.

Describe one professional strength that may contribute to your effectiveness in working with this population

According to Clark (2017), the relationship between the client and a therapist can drastically improve or decrease the effectiveness of treatment. I feel like one of my strengths when working with this age group is that I am able to build strong relationships with my clients. I do this by identifying common ground, incorporating things they enjoy into sessions, and through using empathy, encouragement, and support. For example, Anxiety Disorders in Children & Adolescents

Explain why it is important for you to assess your strengths and limitations as a clinician working with children and adolescents before working with this population

One of the most important things a clinician working with children and adolescents can do to improve their practice is to notice their own strengths and limitations. This is because competence is an essential aspect of providing effective therapeutic techniques that are appropriate to each client (NASW, 2017). Understanding strengths in working with children and adolescents can help a social worker tailor their practice by using their experience to their advantage. It can also help the social worker understand what techniques have been effective and what they are strong in using. For example, when I was working during my internship, my supervisor was well educated in DBT and CBT therapy, so those were the main interventions she used. This worked to her advantage because she was effective in delivering the interventions. Understanding weaknesses can help the clinician realize places where they need to improve on and motivate them to increase their knowledge on the subject. During my internship my supervisor was not strong in working with clients with ADHD because she also has ADHD and was not able to focus during sessions. Because of this, she would refer those clients to other therapists at the agency, or would use fidget toys and her and the client would both draw together while talking.

politics and medical science assignment

When politics and medical science intersect, there can be much debate. Sometimes anecdotes or hearsay are misused as evidence to support a particular point. Despite these and other challenges, however, evidence-based approaches are increasingly used to inform health policy decision-making regarding causes of disease, intervention strategies, and issues impacting society. One example is the introduction of childhood vaccinations and the use of evidence-based arguments surrounding their safety.politics and medical science assignment
