Summary

This assignment requires you to find and summarize an article on an environmental topic from a reputable source (e.g., National Geographic, Washington Post, NBC News, Science, etc.). The summary should be between a half page or so (single spaced) and also include a second paragraph (3-4 sentences) sharing your personal reaction/opinion to the article.  It should also include your name, date and the article title; as well as the full citation for your reference  (author, date, publication source), including the url link. Including JUST the url link will result in the deduction of a point.
For this first article, you may choose any environmental topic of your choice.  Also, the article should be fairly recent; I’d prefer something in the last 3-6 months (certainly no more than 1 year old).  It can be uploaded directly to canvas or sent in as an attachment to an email.  Note that I am looking for an article that is longer than a couple of short paragraphs so you have something to write about!
EXAMPLE   Article assignment example (2).docx  Download Article assignment example (2).docx
I’ve also included an example of a reference citation [I don’t care what format you use for the reference – use whatever you prefer – as long as you include all the necessary information (e.g., author, title, source, date, url link):
Alexander, Kurtis. “Overpumping of Central Valley Groundwater Has Side Effect: Too Much Arsenic.” SFChronicle.com, San Francisco Chronicle, 5 June 2018, www.sfchronicle.com/science/article/Over-pumping-of-Central-Valley-groundwater-has-12967278.php?psid=9ESfA (Links to an external site.).
Finally, for those that would like some ideas for article topics or potential sources, I’ve included (in file link below) some example articles I ran across in my news  feed in recent weeks.  Feel free to use one of these or use the information to help you in your own search.  Note that I just updated the earlier file to include those articles identified by the class as part of yesterday’s end-of-class activity.   Download Sample Topics for Article Assignment – Monday.docx
I note that in the practice article search you did in class Monday, several of you identified excellent articles from reputable science publications.  These are certainly terrific source options for use in the article assignments.  However, for those that may not be scientifically inclined, there are many other options that are more reader friendly to the general public, such as found in national and international news companies and newspaper publications.  My article examples should fit better into this latter category.

reply to 2 peers on discussion issues – nursing homework essays

In response to your peers, consider their arguments and describe whether you agree or disagree with them. Consider the following:

Are there parts of their arguments that you agree with? If so, which ones? If not, which parts do you disagree with? Be specific.
Is there something that your peers said that made you reevaluate your position, even slightly?

I think that either stand made on this subject is correct to some extent, but when looking at it in a whole unspoken rules between people are a norm. Take, for instance, the ‘girl code’ or the ‘guy code’… there are various ‘rules’ genders follow to stay in the good graces of those in their gender circle. Every culture and subculture have a standard in which they follow. As far as the actual rules go, the inmate code is fairly similar to the code of the ghetto or lower income neighborhoods, or in areas with higher crime rate areas. The key elements to the inmate code is basically to keep everyone involved as content as possible and to reduce violent activity. Don’t create problems, don’t give bad vibes, and keep your word. Rules to live by, right? I mean, while it is a bit more complicated and in depth than that, that is pretty much it. Most cultures have the same codes to live by. If your friend lies to you, you no longer trust that friend. That’s the same concept inside the prison system as well. Some differences are obvious, but mostly it is very similar. As I mentioned above, some cultures are more similar in nature. Usually, the lower class citizens have a like-minded approach to how life should be. Don’t snitch- because these ghetto areas are usually inhabited by gang members, drug dealers, addicts, and ‘hoodrats’. These places are not all the same, some have a different culture, but most of them are full of the societal degenerates that thrive on crime and drugs. I am not saying that there is no good in some people, I am only stating that some people chose to disregard the good for themselves and go down the wrong path.

I would agree that inmate code differs from our culture’s moral code.  I believe this to be true as they are just surviving in prison where the outside world is living life to its maximum potential.  The three items of the code that stuck with me were “don’t trust guards”, “be a man and be tough”, and “never rat on another inmate” (James, 2015).  These are all instinctive means of surviving in a difficult environment.  When you compare these to outside manners such as be honest, humble, and kind, it clearly shows a difference approach. If I had to name an outside population that practiced some sort of inmate code, it would be law enforcement (ironically).  They don’t rat each other out, they don’t trust their internal affairs, and they are a brotherhood that sticks together. Gangs are another population that could reflect the inmate code.  I thought it was interesting that the video referred to the inmate code as a set of rules and values, as it is nothing but survival of the fittest, and something that naturally occurs as a way to survive.  Our culture’s moral code is comprised of generations of instilled values and morals that encourage us to work hard, be kind, and pay it forward when you are able.  I am not able to see how they are similar in any way so will be interested in reading some other posts to get another perspective.

The sales profession is often enough compared to waging war where opposing sides battle for the same coveted resources, or to play sports, where one team battles other teams for supremacy, where there can only be one winner.

Sales professionals are the tip of the spear when it comes to bringing revenues to the company. They are in the field developing business opportunities, they represent the company in front of its potential customers, they present the products and services, and they work to create a commercial environment where the customer and their company can conduct mutually beneficial business. Being the tribe’s ‘hunters’, salespeople expect their share of the spoils of the deal in the form of bonuses and compensation which is tied to the deal size and profitability and is paid on top of their regular salaries.

This variable compensation and its role as a motivational driver for salespeople to overachieve their quotas in the high-tech industry is the subject of this paper.
