On a day-to-day basis, conscientiously or unconscientiously, we are all influenced by the incidents that happen around us. During my high school days, I decided to pursue a career in Optometry on seeing my grandfather regularly making long hours of cumbersome road journey to get his eyes treated.In my current role, apart from diagnosing and planning LASIK treatments for patients, I am also involved in designing and reviewing various processes and increasing the overall efficiency. I have been involved in developing processes to standardize OR (Operation Room) procedures, reduce patients’ waiting time, improve their pre- and post-treatment experience, and provide a quality service. I also had a chance to implement NABH (National Accreditation Board of Hospitals and Healthcare providers) protocols at my current workplace, leading to successfully acquiring this accreditation for us. Another joyful aspect of my role has been to work with student interns in clinical practice and train them and exchange ideas on how processes can be improved.I found process designing and quality assuring to be challenging, satisfying and joyful all at the same time. Around the same time I got in touch with an organization work for women, they give shelter, education to the children and women. This organization survived mainly on donations. Such organizations, albeit small in size are doing well and have a direct impact.Since they were managing on donations, they could not afford to help many people. This inspired me to take up the challenge to attain financial stability. But, most of the women were not trained or literate enough and this was the biggest hurdle and is one the most significant problem in the country too, the lack of skilled workforce. According to the report by Indian market organization, 80% of the employment are unskilled and lack formal education and training. The goal was to make organization as well as women there independent. I started working to bridge this gap in skill development for last four years. So to start we convert one floor into a girls hostel and it worked well and yielded into a sturdy fixed monthly income. With new found source of income we managed to arrange skill classes for women.They got their chance and changed the world .We, now, supply spices, snacks, greeting cards, candles, Holi colors, bracelets, artificial flowers etc. Also, some of the girls have joined performing arts such as dancing, singing, and acting. Not only the organization got independent but also women are more confident and hopeful for their futureWhile I have developed my team and process building skills, I am a little short on skills in finance, marketing and entrepreneurship which can drive my professional growth significantly To succeed as an entrepreneur these skills are essential. I feel excited and motivated about being an entrepreneurI believe that MBA is instrumental to address my skill gap. The overall structure of the program consisting core course, electives in field such as healthcare, finance, corporate governance, and entrepreneurship, practical oriented curriculum, emphasis on a case study based learning and an access to the well- organized Action learning project program are the factors that make RICE MBA program my top choice.An MBA at this point of time in my career would help me in getting the skills and knowledge to start and run a company.In the near term, I want to pursue a career as a senior manager and gain strategic perspective across the industries and challenges. While in the longer run, on gaining a few years of experience and learning the best practices, I plan on setting up a manufacturing unit that follows efficient processes, carries continuous improvements, and provides its users quality products.
