INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHAPTER 3 DRAFT:
1) Introductory Remarks: The reader is adequately oriented to the topic areas covered. Anoutline of the logical flow of the chapter is presented.
All major themes/concepts are introduced.
2)Research Methodology and Design: Describes how the research method and design are aligned with the studyproblem, purpose, and research questions.
Uses scholarly support to describe how the design choiceis consistent with the research method, and alternate choices are discussed. For Qualitative Studies:Describes the study phenomenon, boundaries of case(s) and/or constructsexplored.
3)Population and Sample: Provides a description of the target population and the relation to thelarger population.
Inclusion/exclusion criteria for selecting participants(sample) of the study are noted.
4)Materials/Instrumentation: For QualitativeStudies: (e.g., observationchecklists/protocols, interview or focus group discussionHandbooks). Describes process for conducting an expert review ofinstruments (e.g., provides justification of reviewers being credible reviewers may include, but not limited to NCU dissertation team members,professional colleagues, peers, or non-research participants representative ofthe greater population); describes use of a field test if practicing theadministration of the instruments is warranted.
5)Procedures: Describesthe procedures to conduct the study in enough detail to practically replicatethe study, including participant recruitment and notification, and informedconsent. IRB ethical practices are noted.
6)Data Collection and Analysis: For QualitativeStudies: Identifies the coding process of datalinked to RQs. Describes the transcription of data, the software used fortextual analysis (e.g., Nivo, DeDoose), and describes manual analysis byresearcher. Describes the use of a member check to validate data collected.
7)Assumptions/Limitations/ Delimitations: For QualitativeStudies: Includes key elements such as, but notlimited to threats to credibility, trustworthiness, and transferability.
8)Ethical Assurances: Describes compliance with the standards to conduct research asappropriate to the proposed research design and aligned to IRB requirements.
9)Summary: Chapterconcludes with an organized summary of key points discussed/presented in theChapter.
Utilizing the Center for Disease Control (CDC) Firefighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention program select a line of duty investigation and perform an analysis of that death that includes the following elements. This analysis should total (5–8) pages.
Provide a brief summary (1–2 pages) of the case and circumstances.
Identify/discuss 3–5 root causes that lead to the fatality. (1–2 pages)
Identify any violations of laws or standards that may have occurred and explain why?
Determine if this death was preventable or non-preventable and explain why?

In 1999 and 2001, the Institute of Medicine published two reports on patient safety concerns and identified alarming problems within our healthcare system during this time. To Err is Human (IOM, 1999) identified high levels of avoidable medical errors in our hospitals resulting in many patients dying. Six aims to improve patient safety were identified in the Crossing the Quality Chasm (IOM, 2001).
Examine the ways in which the U.S. healthcare system has improved since the publication of these reports. What still needs to be done to make our healthcare system better? Discuss whether or not the U.S. healthcare system is meeting all of the six aims (safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable) necessary to improve quality of care delivered to our patients. You will also assess the role of patient care technologies in meeting the six aims. Include at least two references in your responses and analysis.

Part 1: Older Adult Development Interview 450 words
Review the various theories of Aging in Chapters 14 and 15 of the text.
Interview a person of your choice (they may be your parents, relatives, or friends). These questions must address the following:
Cognitive, physical, and psychosocial development during the interviewee’s Maturity stage of adulthood (age 65 or older).
How peers influenced the interviewee during his or her lifetime.
What people and/or events influenced the interviewee’s development of morals?
How the interviewee’s experiences have formulated who he or she is as a mature adult.
Note: American Psychological Association (APA) ethical guidelines indicate that interviewees have the right to refuse to answer any question posed to them by an interviewer. Please ensure that your interviewees are aware of this, and do not force them to answer where the opportunity to reply has been refused.
Pick one of the theories reviewed in Chapters 14 and 15 of the text.
Part 2: Reflection
Use this theory for the paper: Continuity theory is based on the idea that people tend to cope with daily life in later adulthood by applying familiar strategies based on past experience to maintain and preserve both internal and external structures
Write a paper of 750-1,000 words, discussing the selected theory and how it relates to your interview. Include the following in your paper:
A description of the selected theory.
A description of your interviewee (gender, age, ethnicity, etc.)
How the interviewee’s responses illustrate the selected theory. Support your response with examples.
Discuss the ethical and cultural strategies for promoting resilience, optimum development, and wellness in older adults.
Include at least three scholarly references in addition to the text in your paper.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is required.

In the workplace, we may hear a statement, joke, or remark that is unkind or inappropriate. Often the speaker might appear to do so in a way that is not intended to offend, but comes from other experiences or lack of awareness as to how they may be received.
It is up to you as a manager to set the tone for how these comments are countered in order to create an inclusive environment.
Choose one of the statements below (clearly identify in your work which statement you chose).
“We don’t serve those people here.” (Reference to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender clients)
“He should go back to his own country.” (Reference to someone of a different race)
“She just slows us down.” (Reference to a disabled worker)
“Why doesn’t he retire already!” (Reference to an older employer)
In a 2-3 page paper, suggest some ways in which you would professionally respond if you heard the comment by your subordinate in the employee lounge. Include how you might approach the employee (immediately, privately etc.). Provide specific comments that you might use in your discussion and consider how the individual might defend their actions. What further conversation might this lead to?
Explain the ethical and legal (if any) implications if statements such as the one you chose would continue. What might be lost in your workplace if the statements are allowed?
Include at least one resource you could use to help your conversation. Identify whether there is a legal guideline to share with your employee.
