The implications of the Industrial Revolution went far beyond technological and economic progress. Industrialization left a significant mark in modern society, engendering urbanization, environmental issues, the need for social reform, and workers rights, and prompted women to enter the workforce.

Read the materials supplied in the Week 3 Readings and Resource page and then write a 1,000-word essay considering the following question prompts:

Who were the girls who came to work for the newly opened mills in Lowell, Massachusetts?
For what reasons did these girls seek outside employment?
What prior skills and life experiences would have assisted their new work as industrial workers?
Describe the daily life of a Lowell mill girl. What kind of working conditions did she face? Provide at least two examples. What kind of social and educational activities did she participate in? Provide at least two examples.
What is the contribution of the Lowell mill girls to the larger labor movement?
Factory girls were not only part of revolutionizing industry; they began to revolutionize the role of women in industry. After reading Lucy Anns letter-An Independent Mill Girl (1851), how far this revolution goes? Did these working girls and women experience emancipation from traditional Victorian gender roles? To what extent? And how?
The collective experience of the Lowell girls supported womens participation in many other social and political reforms, and became a bedrock in American womens activism throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, and into the twenty-first. What can we learn from the experiences, successes, and failures of the mill girls, particularly those who actively challenged the harassment, mistreatment, and oppressive restrictions targeted at their sex? Give at least three examples from the web-based sources, and relate them to the activisms of today.

Part 1: Data Visualization

Research statistics on populations of juvenile delinquents using the OJJDP’s Easy Access to Juvenile Court Statistics (EZAJCS) data tool for national data on juvenile delinquency demographics, offenses, and case processing trends. Choose 1 of the following options to investigate:

How 1 year’s delinquency case totals compare to another year’s totals based on the age at referral, manner of handling, and disposition

How 1 year’s case processing totals compare to another year for 2 types of offenses and how they vary for different demographic groups and genders

Create a visual representation of the data that shows a comparison of both groups, such as a chart, graphic image, diagram, or infographic. Do not use a table. Instead, select a visually appealing layout that your community would find easy to read and understand.

Create an image for your data visualization using an illustration tool in Microsoft® Word or PowerPoint®, or use an online drawing tool such as Piktochart® or Smore.

Part 2: Executive Summary

Write an executive summary of your findings in 250 to 525 words. Complete the following in your summary:

Explain the data shown in your image. Summarize what the difference in the numbers means for juvenile sentencing in courts.

Categorize the types of offenses that come under acts of delinquency and status offenses in juvenile courts.

Describe in detail the court process applicable for either type of offense and the court personnel associated with each process?

Samantha Smith was offered a position as director of foodservice for the East Holland Public School District. She received a written offer of employment on the first of the month with the stipulation that the offer would be in effect until the 15th of the month. If Ms. Smith were to accept, she was required to sign the employment contract enclosed with the offer and return it to the offices of the public school district before the 15th.
Excited about the offer from the East Holland Public School District, Ms. Smith turned down another job offer with a food distributor at an annual salary of $75,000.00. Ms. Smith then read through the terms of the agreement with the East Holland School District. After reading the terms of the contract, Ms. Smith decided the offered salary of $90,000.00 was too low.  Accordingly, she adjusted the salary upward in the contract by $5000 and initialed and dated the change on the contract.  Ms. Smith then signed the agreement and mailed the executed document, along with a letter indicating that she was pleased to accept the offer, to the East Holland Public School District’s Administrative Offices. 
The School District received the correspondence and the signed contract on the 10th of the month. On the 13th of the month, the Superintendent for the District called Ms. Smith to express his sadness that she did not take the job, at which time Ms. Smith, realizing the salary change was too high, verbally accepted the job at the original salary offered. The Superintendent advised Ms. Smith, however, that the District had already offered the position to someone else.  Ms. Smith filed a suit for breach of contract against the School District.
Will Ms. Smith prevail in her breach of contract action? Why or why not? Explain the potential damages that might be available if Ms. Smith were to succeed.
