Respond to classmate 150 words. The question they had to answer. (Think about your present workplace or a workplace with which you are familiar. Describe specifically, and in detail, how one of the motivational theories discussed in Chapter 5 was used to motivate employees.  You can choose either one of the content approaches or one of the process In describing how the theory was used (i.e., applied), make sure you evaluate whether or not it was used effectively, and clarify why you take the position that you do.)Classmate I am currently employeed with Enterprise Holdings as an Accounting Supervisor. I manage a team of  3 people which can sometimes be a challenge. Our text says “The content theories of motivation focus on the factors within the person that energize, direct, sustain, and stop behavior.” The content theory teaches us to gain an understanding of people in order to find out what motivates them. My job teaches the same thing. We have various employees who are pursuing different career paths and are from different backgrounds. Not all employees at my workplace are career-driven and motivated. The theory is used at my job by the managers and supervisors scheduling monthly meetings with employees to talk about their performance and what they are motivated to do or what goals they have set. I understand that since not everyone is driven by elevating in their career, they must be driven by something else. I believe that communication is a valuable skill to have especially in management. I have been able to start my supervisor role and build relationships with the people who report to me as well as the others that work in the building with me. Talking to the employees to see what they are working on and finding out what they would like to achieve while employed with the company is also another use of the theory. I know that as I move up in my career I will constantly be assessing people to see how I can better assist them.

Respond to classmate 150 words. The question they had to answer.(Compare and contrast the idea of extrinsic and intrinsic rewards with Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory of motivation.  Does the idea of intrinsic and extrinsic rewards agree in principle with Herzberg, or not?   How effectively have you seen intrinsic and extrinsic rewards used in the workplace?)Classmate Intrinsic incentives are internal in nature and reflect a person’s interests, values, and goals. An intangible intrinsic reward is the sensation of accomplishment you get from mastering a new skill, completing a difficult endeavor, or working on a project that has personal value or purpose. On a blue background, five gold stars with a hand pointing to and touching the fifth star. Extrinsic reward, on the other hand, is something that comes from outside of yourself, such as a teacher or a boss at work. Extrinsic incentives can be monetary (a bonus, incentive, or commission) or non-monetary (a gift) (praise, a training badge, a development opportunity, or a coveted project assignment). A promotion, for example, would very certainly contain components of both. Include a pay boost as well as a new title. Intangibles such as the opportunity to work remotely or an offer to join in a mentoring program are examples of extrinsic benefits. Yes, the idea of intrinsic and extrinsic rewards agrees in principle with Herzberg. Everybody is motivated by something, whether their motivated to be lazy or their motivated to be active. People who are lazy find comfort in doing nothing and have trained their body and mindset to accept that. People who are active and want to pursue their greatest potential in life are motivated by just that. I have seen intrinsic and extrinsic rewards used in the workplace numerous times. As for extrinsic rewards, I have seen co-workers get excited about the bonuses that were issued for a one time only event. I have a co-worker who is getting a degree in real estate and he’s still a cop. So, he gets excited when talking about it and making better moves for his family.

case study 1Vivian Lopez and Loren San will be opening a pastry store called Tasty Desserts. They are opening in two weeks and have still not decided how much to charge for their cakes and how much they should spend on advertisements and promotions, The following information is available:Tasty Dessert’s variable costs per cake $10Tasty Dessert’s fixed costs for the year $12,500 Maximum production capacity for the year 5000 cakesTasty Dessert’s selling price per cake?Advertising budget?Competitor’s selling price per cake (offer similar cakes as Tasty Dessert’s) $20The two owners had the following discussion regarding the selling price and advertising budget: Vivian: Opening day is in two weeks! Loren, we really need to figure out how much we’ll be selling our cakes for and our advertising budget.Loren: As a new store, I think we should charge the same rate as our competitors and advertise our store on the radio and local review blogs. I anticipate that these advertising expenses will increase our fixed costs by $3,000.Vivian: Well, I think the best way to attract customers is to sell our cakes cheaper than anyone else. I’m thinking we should charge 10% lower than our competitor’s rate. As for advertising, I don’t think we need to spend money on advertisements at all. We can simply create a Facebook group and invite a bunch of friends and families. This way, we will generate more sales. In fact, I think we can potentially increase sales by 1,500 cakes.Loren: I agree that we will probably sell more cakes if we charge 10% lower than our competitors. However,I don’t think we will be able cover our fixed costs if we reduce our prices. We should also be concerned with breaking even as quick as possible.case study 1question) Whose suggested strategy should be recommended? Assume that 5,000 cakes will be sold. Constructed Response AnswerGordon Sparks Ltd. sells ergonomic chairs. The company implemented a new bonus structure for all of their managers. As the marketing manager, he was responsible for seeking external opportunities, managing budgets and understanding the current and potential customers. Every three or four days, Mingle would meet with the sales manager, Logan Freidman. The meeting was usually about past sales, and whether there were changes to the selling strategy. This information was extremely important to Mingle, since he was responsible to ensurethe marketing objectives are aligned with the sales objectives.During the year, Mingle made several changes to Gordon Sparks’ marketing strategy. Mingle created a set of popular commercials, which were a complete success. Each commercial reached over 5,000,000 views on YouTube. However, by the end of that year, Mingle realized that he did not receive a bonus from the company because the company’s overall financial performance remained the same. case study 2 question)Discuss the appropriateness of the company’s bonus policy.Case Study 3 Constructed Response AnswerHocus Pocus Company wants to increase sales by adding a new product line.
