    Article Research Paper Instructions:

Article Research Papers and Posting: This is a graduate course and students will be expected to research and write papers summarizing in their own words what they have found on current topics from the weekly readings. Research is a theoretical review of relevant literature and application of findings in the literature to a topic related to a specific industry, field, or business problem. The research must be conducted using peer-reviewed trade or academic journals. While Blogs, Wikipedia, encyclopedias, course textbooks, popular magazines, newspaper articles, online websites, etc. are helpful for providing background information, these resources are NOT suitable resources for this research assignment. Please Note: The UC Library staff are very helpful with assisting students in using the UC Online Library journal database. Please contact them if you have issues. In addition, the instructor has provided additional resources, including a research tutorial, in the “Course Resources” folder in the “Content” area of the course.Assignment Requirements:

  1. Choose a research topic from the chapter readings or from the list provided by your professor.
  2. Research/find a minimum at least four (4), preferably five (5) or more, different peer-reviewed articles on your topic from the University of the Cumberlands Library online business database. The article(s) must be relevant and from a peer-reviewed source. While you may use relevant articles from any time frame, current/published within the last five (5) years are preferred. Using literature that is irrelevant or unrelated to the chosen topic will result in a point reduction.
  3. Write a four (4) to five (5) page double spaced paper in APA format discussing the findings on your specific topic in your own words. Note – paper length does not include cover page, abstract, or references page(s).
  4. Structure your paper as follows:
    1. Cover page
    2. Overview describing the importance of the research topic to current business and professional practice in your own words
    3. Review of the Literature summarized in your own words. Note that this should not be a “copy and paste” of literature content, nor should this section be substantially filled with direct quotes from the article. A literature review is a summary of the major points and findings of each of the selected articles (with appropriate citations). Direct quotations should be used sparingly. Normally, this will be the largest section of your paper (this is not a requirement; just a general observation).
    4. Practical Application of the literature. Describe how your findings from the relevant research literature can shape, inform, and improve current business and professional practice related to your chosen topic.
    5. Conclusion in your own words
    6. References formatted according to APA style requirements
  5. Attach your paper to the Discussion board by the Friday due date (150 points). Note: be sure to provide your paper as a Microsoft Word document attached to your submission in the discussion forum. You should also copy and paste the contents of your paper as the body of your post to make it easier for students to review and read.
  6. Read and respond to at least four (4) other student postings by the Sunday due date (20 points).

Grading Criteria:

  • Content & Structure (35 points): All of the requested components are completed as assigned; content is on topic and related to managerial accounting, critical thinking is clearly demonstrated (few, if any, direct quotations from the source in the paper); scholarly research is demonstrated; topics and concepts gained from the assigned reading and/or from research is evident.
  • APA Formatting (15 points): Cover page, headings, in-text citations, page citations (page number citations required for specific information such as dates, years, list of items from article, names, numbers, statistics, and other specific information), and references are properly formatted.
  • Articles (15 points): Articles used are current and relevant (preferably published within last five (5) years and MUST be from peer-reviewed journal article publications. At least four (4) peer-reviewed journal articles are examined and analyzed in the paper.
  • Effective Communication (15 points): Communication is clear, concise, and well presented; scholarly writing is demonstrated; grammar, sentence structure, writing in third person, and word choice is used correctly.
  • Responses to Other Students (20 points): Substantive responses provided to a minimum of four (4) other students. Responses must provide substantive and meaningful discussion of the content of the other student’s paper and provide comments on the topic; responses must be one (1) to two (2) paragraphs long with a minimum of three sentences per paragraph.
  • Please Note: Plagiarism will not be tolerated. The paper must be written in your own words.

Recruitment and selection ant | FPX3040 | Capella University

Write a 3-4 page recruitment and selection plan based on best practices and approaches for either Java Corp or an organization of your choice.

Introduction

Attracting top talent that fits the organization is of considerable importance. The ability to recruit and select talented people is one of the foundational skills for any human resource (HR) professional and one that will be utilized throughout your career.

Preparation

For this assessment, research the topics of recruitment and selection. Using one of the scenarios below, analyze best practices and approaches for these key HR functions. A minimum of three resources are required to support your work.

Scenario

For this assessment, choose either option 1 or 2. You do not need to do both. You will apply one of these scenarios in the instructions below. Both options will be graded using the same scoring guide.

Option 1

You are the new HR manager for Java Corp, which specializes in cold coffee and iced tea. Java Corp is small but quickly growing. There are 300 employees in the company and the organization has a history of a stable workforce with very limited turnover. Recently, the company gained over 200 employees and there are a number of supervisory and managerial positions that need to be filled. The CEO has asked you to work with her to fill positions based on an organizational structure she has just created.

New supervisors and managers are needed in IT (one), marketing (one), operations (two), and security (one). Each of these areas has seasoned internal employees eager to compete for jobs, though some may not be as qualified as external candidates. Develop a recruitment and selection plan that is best suited for this situation and make appropriate recommendations to the CEO.

Option 2

Choose an organization to use for this assessment. It can be where you are currently employed or a company with which you are familiar. It must be an organization that is researchable, as you will need to gather and analyze information to complete the assessment. You may use the same organization for the other assessments.

If you choose the organization where you are currently employed, please keep in mind that the analyses you make must be based on facts that can be documented rather than your personal opinion as an employee.

Research the recruitment and selection functions of the chosen organization.

Contact your faculty if you have questions.

Instructions

For this assessment, develop a recruitment and selection plan for the chosen organization. In your plan:

  • Analyze the role of the recruiter.
    • What unique opportunities and challenges are present for the selected company?
  • Outline a recruitment process to meet organizational objectives for the selected company.
    • Include a step-by-step process for the selection of supervisors and managers.
    • Include the best practices that support your recommended best recruitment plan. Consider the use of social media, types of employment tests, and how to conduct effective interviews, for example.
    • Include additional information that make the positions more attractive.
  • Explain an organization’s legal considerations for recruitment and selection functions.
  • Analyze how to measure success of the chosen selection method for the selected company.
    • What specific metrics would you use for your selected company?
Additional Requirements

Your assessment should also meet the following requirements:

  • Length: 3-4 typed, double-spaced pages, in addition to a title page and reference page.
  • Written communication: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly and professional. Your writing should be:
    • Concise and logically organized.
    • Free of errors in grammar and mechanics.
  • Validation and support: Use a minimum of three relevant and credible scholarly or professional resources such as the Wall Street Journal to support your work. These resources should not include the resources found in the course.
  • APA format: Format all citations and references in accordance with current APA guidelines. Refer to the Evidence and APA Campus page for guidance.

Competencies Measured

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria:

  • Competency 1: Apply human resource strategies to business needs.
    • Outline a recruitment process to meet organizational objectives for the selected company.
  • Competency 2: Analyze core functions of human resource management.
    • Analyze the role of the recruiter.
    • Explain an organization’s legal considerations for recruitment and selection functions.
  • Competency 3: Analyze the strategic value of human resource management within a competitive global business environment.
    • Analyze how to measure success of the chosen selection method for the selected company.
  • Competency 4: Communicate effectively in a scholarly and professional manner.
    • Apply APA formatting to in-text citations and references.
    • Convey purpose in an appropriate tone and style, incorporating supporting evidence and adhering to organizational, professional, and scholarly writing standards.

Discuss the following:

  • The power of advertising is in its persuasive influence, and this influence can take several different forms. Research one example lawsuit, using the legal database, of persuasive but deceptive advertising within the last five years that violates the law regarding product liability warranty.  Be sure to identify the facts and explain the law in your answer. See Section 13-2: Advertising as a Contract Basis for Product Liability in your textbook. Provide support for your response. Cash Budget

Close to 50% of the typical industrial and retail firm’s assets are held as working capital. Many newly minted college graduates work in positions that focus on working capital management, particularly in small businesses in which most new jobs are created in today’s economy.

To prepare for this Discussion: Shared Practice, select two of the following components of working capital management: the cash conversion cycle, the cash budget, inventory management, and credit policies. In Chasing the Scream physician John Marks is quoted as saying that many “of the harms of drugs are to do with the laws around them, not the drugs themselves.” (Hari, 2015, p. 210) The thought process surrounding the idea that drugs are not the problem but the laws surrounding drugs is very complicated for me.  I do agree with the idea Britain originally backed in the beginning of the drug wars: They said addicts were ill and that it was immoral to leave them to suffer or die (Hari, 2015, p.207) However, when John Marks started his journey with prescribing addicts with heroin he stated, They were “maybe a few dozen lads, the occasional girl, who came and got their tot of junk…Railwaymen, bargemen, all walks of life really.”(Hari, 2015, p.208) My problem with his concept is: Many of these people he was prescribing to were laborers who were potentially under the influence of this heroin while working, putting many others in mortal risk.   Sure, prescribing pure heroin will reduce the number and severity of addicts that is good but how does this effect other innocents around these people?

It is my belief that prescribing heroin to addicts is not a valid option for The United States from a legality angle.  Currently Nevada law states:  Although employers may create workplace policies prohibiting recreational marijuana use, employers need to remain cognizant of their obligations to accommodate medical marijuana users. As of April 1,2014, Nevada employers must, in certain circumstances, make reasonable accommodations for the medical needs of an employee who holds a valid medical marijuana registry card(Lane &Hall, 2017). Obliviously, there is a difference between medical marijuana and medical heroin, however how would one differentiate which one is acceptable and which one is not?  How do we enforce workplace safety?  Is it not our goal to get the addicts back into the world and make them productive citizens again?  Under John Marks’s ideas this would include prescribing medicinal heroin for use in the workplace.  How would we protect the innocent?
