We will now begin to take a closer look at each of the environments. Week 2 brings you to the Domestic Environment. You will continue with your selected “Worst”  company approved from your Week 1 Assignment.

LO – 1 – Identifying one of the business environments used in this course, the student will be able to discuss that environment’s past, present, and future with the use one business theorist.

LO – 2 – Given a chosen company, the student will determine how government regulations affect the company and how to overcome barriers within the Domestic Environment using business theory

Prompt: 

Research the domestic environment of your selected worst company  and write an es say in APA format that covers the following:  (NOTE: Do not write in first person.)

1. Identify the company, describe the nature of its industry, and describe its domestic environment (home country). (For example: U.S. Air operates in the airline industry. Its home country and domestic environment is the United States.)
2. Summarize the company’s industry; how long it has been in business; and the attribute for which it is the least admired as a “worst” company.

Items 1 and 2 should be covered in no more than a para graph or two at most. The remaining pa per should address the following:

1. Investigate and explain the domestic government regulations associated with your chosen company’s industry. (For example, for U.S. Air, you would investigate government regulations for the airline industry.) You will need to engage in research for this as specifically relates to your chosen company.
2. How do these domestic government regulations affect your chosen company in its domestic environment? What are the barriers for business that are raised by these regulations?
3. Identify a business theorist and briefly describe this theorist’s business theory. (Refer to Lessons Materials/required readings.)
4. What should the business do to overcome these barriers? In addressing this question incorporate the business theorist you have identified. (NOTE: It is not sufficient to state nothing can be done or that the company is already doing what it can do. You must provide some critical and creative thought.)

Nursing Situation Pancreatitis

Brief Patient History:
Mr. C is a 38-year-old Hispanic male admitted to the intensive care unit from the emergency department (ED) in hypovolemic shock. Mr. C was initially diaphoretic, unresponsive, and pale with a blood pressure of 70 systolic. After fluid resuscitation in the ED, his blood pressure increased to 90 systolic and responsiveness was restored. Mr. C is a migrant worker from Mexico who speaks limited English and is married with four children. All family members live in Mexico, except his uncle. Mr. C’s uncle verbalizes that his nephew has been complaining of severe abdominal pain for the past few days, with frequent episodes of nausea and vomiting.

Clinical Assessment:
Mr. C is in a fetal position, complaining of nausea and intolerable knifelike abdominal pain, radiating to his back. A physical examination reveals that Mr. C is restless, obeys commands, and moves all extremities. Bilateral breath sounds are diminished with bibasilar crackles, S1 S2 without murmur, and capillary refill greater than 3 seconds, and peripheral pulses are 1+. Abdomen is distended and tenderness and guarding, hypoactive bowel sounds, and tympany are noted. Trousseau’s sign (carpopedal spasm with inflation of blood pressure cuff) and Chvostek’s sign (muscle spasm of the face with tap on facial nerve) are present. Skin is cool, pale, and dry. IV fluids are Ringer solution at 200 mL/hr and Foley catheter draining amber urine at 20 mL/hr.

Diagnostic Procedures:
Mr. C’s vital signs include blood pressure of 92/68 mm Hg, pulse of 122 beats/min that is thready and weak, respiratory rate of 26 breaths/min, temperature of 100.8° F, and SpO2 of 92% on O2 at 4 L per nasal cannula. His arterial blood gasses are: pH of 7.48, PaO2 of 80 mm Hg, PaCO2 of 48 mm Hg, HCO3 level of 38 mEq/L. He has an O2 saturation of 95% on an FIO2 of 36%.

Diagnostic values for Mr. C are as follows:
WBC, 19,600 units/L; hematocrit (Hct), 48.3%; hemoglobin (Hgb), 11.6 g/dL;
blood urea nitrogen (BUN), 18 mg/dL; serum creatinine, 1.2 mg/dL; serum glucose, 220 mg/dL; serum amylase, 280 Somogyi units/mL; serum lipase, 13.5 Somogyi units/mL; serum sodium, 140 mEq/L; serum potassium, 2.9 mEq/L; serum calcium, 5.8 mg/dL; serum albumin, 2.8 mg/dL; serum magnesium, 0.9 mg/dL; serum C-reactive protein, 140 mg/dL; and serum lactate, 3 mmol/L.

Identify a current social issue that involves the concepts of power, privilege, and/or oppression of an individual or group of individuals within society. Explain the social work skills needed to provide culturally-relevant treatment services to a client system (individual, family, or group) and the significant considerations a social worker must be cognizant of when providing treatment services. Investigate any related government policies that may influence your explanation. 

Examples may include working with a transgender individual who planned on military service but now faces a ban on enlistment, or a DACA student unable to continue college because of current immigration policies. Points will be assigned to reflect the depth of thinking displayed, resources identified, and integration of social constructs and knowledge of cultural considerations in outlining treatment planning for the client system.
