Marketing Unit 4 Brief Writing Activity:

 Franchising Franchising is a very important method of distribution for many corporations. In this short writing assignment, you will select and examine two franchise businesses.

 Instructions

 1. Go to Franchise Direct, Top 100 Franchises for the current year and review two franchise business opportunities. They must be from different industry categories. 

2. In a 500-750 words, answer the following questions:

 a. Identify the industry and name for the franchise. How long have the franchises been in business?

 b. How do the requirements for physical location (territory granted) contribute to the distribution of the product or service? 

c. What are the main problems, including supply chain management, facing the franchise as they add additional franchise locations? Additional research will be needed to address this question. 

d. Are there other distribution channels the franchise might use to expand distribution of their good or service? An example would be Dunkin’ placing bags of coffee in grocery stores. Please be specific and utilize your readings and research to substantiate your thoughts. 

Requirements:

  Prepare a quality, substantive paper that addresses the objectives of the assignment and the expectations set forth in the grading rubric. 

 A minimum of 500 words excluding the title page and references is required.

  Support your answers with a minimum of three scholarly and/or professional sources that have been published within the past 5 years.

“Laws Influencing Information Security and Privacy in the Healthcare Sector”

Select one American healthcare organization (“covered entity” in HIPAA parlance) that frames your research. Describe the organization, its components assuming it’s a healthcare “system,” its business in general, and any additional descriptive information that will inform your reader about your subject matter. Describe and define at least one the laws focused on compliance within the healthcare sector that came up during our course. Research the law itself, any legal cases that were based on that law, and the critique of the law that you found through your research. Of course, if your selected covered entity was involved in such litigation, or has published their critique, include that information too. In addition to compliance laws that directly target healthcare institutions, countless other laws apply to them. Use the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s website to discover whether your selected institution has been awarded intellectual property rights for their trademarks, patents, or IP. Describe whether and how it protects its trade secrets. Describe for your reader some of the most prominent criminal or tort risks that your entity faces; or perhaps has been involved in. In addition to risks in the realms of criminal or tort law, every organization faces the potential risk of enduring a cyber-attack or other incident that must be followed by a forensics investigation. Keeping the focus on your organization and the healthcare sector, research and discuss an incident or case in which such an institution was compelled to go through the forensic investigation process. There are no sectors exempt from those incidents or cases, regrettably, so be diligent and you will find one to discuss. A  useful tool in conducting research is the annotated bibliography. An  annotated bibliography combines the citations found in the References  list at the end of documents in APA format with annotations about each  of the sources. 

For this assignment,  you will construct an annotated bibliography based upon your sport of  choice. This Annotated Bibliography will be sport specific and contain  books, articles, websites, etc that are relevant to your sport’s culture and sociology. 

Purpose:  An annotated bibliography is an organizing tool that is helpful when  working on a research project. An effective annotated bibliography is  used to compile research sources in one location and provide the  researcher with quick access to the information contained in each  source. 

Audience:  This assignment should be directed at your scholarly peers, and you may  assume that they have only a casual familiarity with your topic or  issue.

Content/Subject:  Your annotated bibliography will consist of the sources that you have  deemed relevant to your topic and/or question(s) of inquiry. The goal of  the assignment each week is to find Primary Sources. While you may  encounter sources that are secondary, you will only include the ones  that you find most useful and relevant.
