A New Era in Global Health Question
Responses to classmates must consist of at least 350 words (not including the greeting and the references), do NOT repeat the same thing your classmate is saying, try to add something of value like a resource, educational information to give to patients, possible bad outcomes associated with the medicines discussed in the case, try to include a sample case you’ve seen at work and discuss how you feel about how that case was handled. Try to use supportive information such as current Tx guidelines, current research related to the treatment, anything that will enhance learning in the online classroom. Health disparities are a type of differences in health that are closely linked with social or economic disadvantages (CDC, 2014). A New Era in Global Health Question As a nurse I see this every day with one or more patients. Working in a hospital in Orland, FL, I always see patients from different parts of the world. As an example of this, I have had patients that have stayed in this country as illegal immigrants. Many of these patients if not all, never seek health care until it is too late and they are already sick. The reason for this is that many of the aforementioned patients either don’t have the means to afford preventive care, or are afraid to go to the hospital because of their legal status in this country. It is my firm believe that every person in this country should have the right to health care.

I think that even illegal immigrants should have the right to affordable health insurance and not be afraid of taking care of themselves because they fear they might be deported back to their countries. Unfortunately, the United States is the only developed country in the world that does not have a plan for universal healthcare coverage and some type of legal right to health care for all its residents (Holtz, 2017). It is very important to incorporate our individual ethos into daily practice, which may help other people by promoting a universal experience of dignity for all foundational precepts of the art and science that constitute nursing (Rosa, 2017). We as nurses must accept that we must care for our patients and others by carrying what we know and advocate for what is right. Whether we are engaged in a large local nursing community in state, country, or international, we can still bring a lot to help those who need us the most. A New Era in Global Health Question As an example of this, I am involved in my local hospital’s Nurse Professional Practice Council (NPPC) where nurses representing each unit in the hospital gather together every second Tuesday of every month to discuss ways in which we can improve the way we deliver care and ultimately how the patients receive care. Even though this does not necessarily impact people worldwide, I believe we make a difference in our community by sharing our knowledge and experiences to improve the lives of those we care for in the hospital. I am a firm believer that education is the key to a better future because by studying and learning new things, our minds can be open to many possibilities and ways of thinking. This way, I can start thinking about my nursing career in not only at the local level, but also global. Publications, advocacy, policy advancement, educational restructuring, the creation of new knowledge through research, and a global commitment to ethical, respectful, and unified professionalism can be great ways to start changing one’s way of thinking (Rosa, 2017). I must admit that I feel like I’m most knowledgeable about the world problems when it comes to healthcare than the problems that we have here in this country because in my opinion the news and other communication channels speak more about global problems than the local ones. I think that in order for me to fix this, I must research more about this country first to start understanding better the problems of the world. References Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
