Unit 3 DBD – nursing homework essays
In this assignment, you are asked to discuss your reflections thus far on the research tradition, design, and methods that you anticipate employing for your dissertation study. This exercise is intended to help you think through key ideas to be presented in your methods chapter (i.e., Chapter 3) and will allow your instructor to provide you with feedback and guidance. Review the Chapter 3 area of the CTU Dissertation Template as you prepare your primary response to this Discussion Board. In addition, you may be able to repurpose some content from your approved research prospectus for this assignment.
In your primary response, concisely address the following questions:
What is your study purpose, research problem statement and guiding research question (this is your trio)? This should be comprised of 3 sentences or statements.
What is the research tradition or approach that underpins your overall research methodology and why (2–5 sentences)? Regard methodology as a framework that determines how you think about your study, how you make decisions (and why you make those decisions) about your study, and how you position yourself as the researcher (e.g., objectivist, constructivist, or interpretivist). The research approach or tradition that you use (e.g., qualitative, quantitative) guides these decisions. One recommended source to investigate that will help you with this is Mills and Birks’ (Eds.), Qualitative Methodology: A Practical Guide, Chapters 2 and 3, which can be accessed through the Research Methods (SAGE) database in the CTU Library. Note that these two chapters provide some groundwork useful to quantitative and qualitative researchers alike.
What research design do you anticipate using for your study and why (2–5 sentences)? Research designs include (but are not limited to) the following:
Exploratory
Case study
Phenomenological
Correlational
Design science
Action research
Cite sources as appropriate, prioritizing the works of the methodologists known for their expertise in specific research designs and minimizing the use of basic research methods texts.
What are the research methods (i.e., procedures and processes) that you anticipate employing for your study and why (2–5 sentences)? Methods include approaches researchers take to sampling, data collection, and data analysis. Cite sources as appropriate because data collection and analysis methods can vary based on research tradition or design.
What do you assess are currently your strengths and challenges related to composing your methods chapter and why (2–5 sentences)?

Be sure to check in with your CTU methods course texts, but do not be overly reliant on them.
