For your response paper, please write a 300 and 500 word essay on some of the problems of criminalizing drugs in the US using the readings from this unit.
Your essay should include:

Proper in-text citation of the texts your reference (please use author name and date, and page numbers of any directly quoted material);
Appropriate bibliographic citations at the end of your paper.

To write your paper, chose at least two readings from this unit to comment on the effects of the War on Drugs or the criminalization of drugs more broadly. Ask yourself: how does the reading help inform some of the problems of the War on Drugs? How does the war on drugs affect the criminal justice system? How has the criminalization of drugs changed over time? How does the criminalization of drugs affect target groups in the US? Please do not summarize the readings. Rather, think of how the readings speak to each other. Note, you may also use information from the documentary “The House We Live In”. 
It might help to answer or consider the following questions:
1)What do the readings say is the problem with the War on Drugs? How do they affect people?
2)How do some of these problems relate to prisons, policing or the criminal justice system more broadly?
3) What role does the media play in the criminalization of drugs? What role do doctors play?
